Must-Haves (the Best of the Best)

1.Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2- 3D Platformer

By perfectly combining gameplay elements from the 3D and 2D iterations of the Super Mario games, Mario Galaxy is a more-than-worthy sequel to Mario 64. Winner of Gamespot's Best Wii Game, Best Platformer, Best Artistic Graphics, and Game of Year 2007 Awards.

Galaxy 2 builds off the gameplay of the original game and fine-tunes the level design and platforming elements even further. Critics and gamers both generally agree that Nintendo somehow managed to top Super Mario Galaxy with its sequel.

2. Super Smash Bros. Brawl- Quasi-3D brawler

Duke it out with all the big Nintendo characters in this simple to play yet difficult to master fighting game. Online multiplayer is available along with tons of unlockables to make for a long-lasting experience. Up to four players can play locally in several game modes.

3. Mario Kart Wii- Racing

Play as characters from the Mario universe in this weapons-based racer. Duke it out in races or battle mode with up to four local players or twelve players online. The game comes packed with one Wii Wheel that helps the motion controls feel much more natural, though you can use the remote+nunchuck, cIassic controller, or Gamecube controller as well.

The online features of MKWii are fairly robust, including tournaments, regular races, battle modes, leaderboards for time trials, and exchangeable ghosts

4.New Super Mario Bros. Wii- Platformer

New Super Mario Bros. is a side-scrolling platformer in the tradition of the original Super Mario Bros. games for the NES and SNES. It combines elements from nearly all of the 2D games to create an experience that feels familiar but fresh. New to this version is the ability to play through the game with up to four players on-screen at the same time. Because all of the characters can interact with each other (pick each other up, bounce off each other's heads, even kill each other with turtle shells), it makes for an insane but incredibly fun experience. There are also two multiplayer battle modes but no WiFi support.

5.The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess- Action/Adventure

Twilight Princess goes back to the more realistic art styIe of the N64's Ocarina of Time and manages to mostly keep pace with that cIassic. Link can turn into a wolf to take on the familiar mix of puzzles and action in the land of Hyrule.

6.Metroid Prime Trilogy- First-person adventure

The Trilogy includes updated versions of the first two Prime games with Wii motion controls, slightly updated graphics and load times, 16:9 aspect ratio, and new unlockables. It also includes an unchanged version of Metroid Prime 3. Each game provides a good balance of exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat, all set in beautiful environments that are worth exploring. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes provides an offline split-screen multiplayer mode with up to four human players.

7.Monster Hunter 3- Action/adventure

Monster Hunter 3 is primarily an action game that revolves around melee-based attacks and armor/weapon upgrades. The single-player experience offers a comprehensive tutorial of the game's basics (which is basically "kill monster, collect resources, create weapon/armor"), but the real meat of the game is its online mode. You can play online with up to three friends (or random strangers) to complete tier-based quests. No friend codes are required.

8.Super Paper Mario - 2D/3D platformer/Action RPG

Super Paper Mario is a unique mix of 2D and 3D platforming with RPG elements, such as talking to other characters, buying items, and leveling up. The battles are real-time and somewhat reminiscent of cIassic Mario action.

9.Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition- Third-person shooter

Although it's a Gamecube port, Resident Evil 4 is a worthy purchase because of its superior control scheme designed around the Wii controller. If you never owned this game for the Gamecube, it's worth checking out for the Wii.

10. Okami- Action/adventure

Okami for the Wii is a fantastic adventure game based on Japanese Mythology. The brightly colored worlds and enticing story really bring you into the game. Okami lasts approximately 30+ hours on story-driven gameplay alone, plus enough extras to last about twice as long. There are varying RPG elements such as the ability to upgrade health and ink capacity as the game goes on; but when it comes down to it, Okami is an adventure game in the vein of Zelda. If you are looking for an epic adventure on the Wii, Okami is the game to get. (submitted by Phantom5800)

11.Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure- Point and click adventure

Zack and Wiki is a surprisingly good puzzle game. Don't let the cutesy graphics and quirky characters turn you away from this game's excellence; the puzzles are challenging and fun, even for adults. Winner of Gamespot's Best Adventure Game of 2007 Award.

12. No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle - Action

No More Heroes is a simple beat-em-up with a lightsaber. The story and presentation are quirky and self-conscious as a parody of the nerd lifestyIe. The gameplay of the first game consists of doing random jobs and missions around a city in order to earn enough money to fight against ten fellow assassins.

The gameplay of the second game consists of 8-bit styIe games and some more traditional combat missions to earn money in order to buy upgrades (the fifteen boss battles are "free" this time), and the roamable city has been entirely replaced by a more accessible, stylish menu/map of the city.

The combat of both games is a combination of button mashing and remote waving, but it's pretty satisfying. Each boss battle is unique and requires a different tactic to win.

13. Boom Blox Bash Party - Puzzle

Boom Blox presents a series of physics-based puzzles, the objective being either to keep structures made of blocks from being knocked down or to knock them over by various means, using the Wiimote to throw, shoot, and grab at the blocks. Boom Blox features a realistic physics system; the angle at which a projectile is launched and how fast it is thrown as well as the mass of the projectile and the type of blocks it comes into contact with influence the results of an action. Bash Party improves over the original by offering more tools and more modes, including an online community to share user-created levels. (submitted by king23_, updated by JordanElek)

14. Punch Out - Boxing (puzzle)

Punch Out is essentially a puzzle game under the guise of a simple boxing game. Each of the 13 opponents has a unique set of moves and tells. Once you figure these out, you'll have to use a combination of memorization and twitch reflexes to defeat them. They start out pretty easy, but the difficulty gradually ramps up to an intense challenge. With several single-player modes, challenges for each opponent, and a basic two-player versus mode, there is no lack of replayability. It retains all the charm of the original NES and SNES games, and it's hilarious.

Local Multiplayer Games

1. Wii Sports Resort - Sports collection

This mini-game collection includes 12 sports, each with at least two modes of play: swordplay, wakeboarding, frisbee, archery, basketball, table tennis, golf, bowling, jet skiing, canoeing, cycling, and air sports. The game comes packed with one Wii Motion Plus attachment, which allows for more precise motion controls and is required for every controller in every mini-game. Some games let you share one controller among up to four people, but others require each player to have a controller.

2.WarioWare: Smooth Moves - Microgame collection

This collection of insanely quirky but fun microgames makes great use of the Wii remote's motion capabilities. Some multiplayer modes support up to 12 players, so it's a great game for a living room full of friends.

3.Rayman Raving Rabbids (and Raving Rabbids 2) - Minigame collection

Rayman Raving Rabbids is a spinoff from the popular Rayman franchise. If you're looking at either of these titles for a platformer that uses Wiimote functions, you'll be disappointed. Instead these titles offer a variety of extended mini games (an assortment of events that last for a few minutes rather then a few seconds like WarioWare). The games combine Wiimote movements and humor. Newcomers to the series would be best to get the original version, while buyers of the first who want a second dose of Rabbids would be advised to get the second (though the humor is still top notch, the events aren't as fresh feeling as the original). (submitted by Jaysonguy)

4. Guitar Hero 5 - Rhythm

Guitar Hero 5 is the best version of the game for a party atmosphere, featuring easy drop-in and drop-out play and quick difficulty and instrument changing. Any possible combination of guitar, vocals, and drums can be used in any song.

5. Rock Band 2 and Beatles Rock Band - Rhythm

Rock Band 2 has a huge selection of downloadable songs to choose from and is the best version of Rock Band available on the Wii. The Beatles Rock Band is amazing for any Beatles fan (and is always a hit at parties).

6.New Super Mario Bros.

8. Super Smash Bros. Brawl- Quasi-3D brawler

Duke it out with all the big Nintendo characters in this simple to play yet difficult to master fighting game.Up to four players can play locally in several game modes.Online multiplayer is available along with tons of unlockables to make for a long-lasting experience.

9. Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles - On-rails shooter

These light-gun-esque shooters retell the Resident Evil story from the beginning in short episodes. The first-person perspective moves through the levels on its own while you point your cursor to shoot at pretty much everything. Lots of action, lots of things to unlock... Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles support two players and the Wii Zapper.

10. House of the Dead: Overkill - On-rails shooter

Overkill is an arcade styIe shooting game with funny dialogue and a twisted plot. It's really fun to play with a friend in co-op, and it has three mini games which can be played up to four players. Strongly recommended for a rent since the gameplay is relatively short. (submitted by hongyi192)

Online Multiplayer Games

1.Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex Edition - First-person shooter

2. The Conduit - First-person shooter

The Conduit is a traditional first-person shooter that offers the most varied online multiplayer experience on the Wii. It features fully customizable controls, WiiSpeak support with friends, a simple workaround for friend codes, lobbies for matches, a maximum of twelve players in a match, and several different game modes. There are no offline multiplayer modes. The Conduit is best known for its excellent controls and technically proficient graphics.

The multiplayer matches make use of Domination mode alongside Nintendo's much-touted inaugural online console offering free online; play friendly and ranked matches with or without your friends. (submitted by Ojisst)

4.Excitebots - Racing

Excitebots is a fun and unique racing game that focuses on tricks and stunts, in addition to when you cross the finish line, to determine the winner. The single-player modes offer a variety of challenges and a huge number of unlockables, but the online multiplayer is what really shines. Go online against up to five other racers. Place a bet at the beginning of the race, and your winnings are multiplied if you end up in one of the top slots. Unfortunately, there is no splitscreen functionality for online multiplayer, but there is a two-player offline splitscreen mode, though you can't race against any computer-controlled racers, so it's just you and your friend. Poker race is also available online, in which you can compete to create the best poker hand by driving through a series of cards.

The online features of MKWii are fairly robust, including tournaments, regular races, battle modes, leaderboards for time trials, and exchangeable ghosts

7. Tiger Woods 10 - Golf

Some hail Tiger Woods 10 as the best golf game ever made, mostly due to its fantastic controls that faithfully recreate the real thing. It supports Wii Motion Plus, which is sold separately for $20 or packaged with the game for an extra $10. Aside from the controls, the game offers daily and weekly online tournaments with leaderboards, a mode that lets you pit your score against the pros as they play real courses in real-time, and online multiplayer with up to four players at once.

8. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars - Fighting

The next entry in the fast-paced fighting series by Capcom has arrived. Though there is a new squad of characters from the Tatsunoko side, fans of Marvel Vs Capcom will enjoy the deep and fun fighting. The gameplay uses four attack buttons and is compatible with the Wii remote, Wii remote+Nunchuck, GameCube controller, cIassic controller and arcade stick. The solid online play, using Nintendo WiFi Connection, can add even more hours of gameplay, featuring friend matches, free play matches, ranked matches and stats tracking. If you participate in ranked matches you can earn "Battle Points", much like what we've seen in games like Mario Kart Wii. You can also have emblems and titles to personalize yourself online. This is a must have for any fan of fighting games. (submitted by ehsan8888 and Haziqonfire)

By Genre

Action

Madworld

Madworld is the most violent game on the Wii. Period. In each level, your goal is to mutilate your enemies as creatively as possible by combining as many painful techniques as you can before delivering the final blow. Once you've racked up enough points, the boss battle (easily the highlight of each level) will be available. Each stage has at least one Bloodbath Challenge that lets you quickly score points in entertaining ways, such as hitting an enemy's head through rings with a golf club or tossing as many enemies into a pit before a bed of spikes crashes down on them. These challenges are also available in a two-player multiplayer mode, where you can compete for the highest score on your console.

Monster Hunter 3

Monster Hunter 3 is primarily an action game that revolves around melee-based attacks and armor/weapon upgrades. The single-player experience offers a comprehensive tutorial of the game's basics (which is basically "kill monster, collect resources, create weapon/armor"), but the real meat of the game is its online mode. You can play online with up to three friends (or random strangers) to complete tier-based quests. No friend codes are required.

No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle

Red Steel 2

Don't be fooled by the name - Red Steel 2 is nothing like the original Red Steel. It's more of an action game than a shooter, mainly because your sword is always instantly accessible and is your primary weapon of choice. This game requires Wii Motion Plus for sword actions, which greatly enhances the accuracy. Although you eventually acquire four different guns, they are used mostly to destroy objects in the environment and finish off weak enemies. The action is combo-based, and you learn more special moves (some of which are really, really cool) throughout the course of the game. The single player campaign is 10-15 hours long for a single playthrough, but there are three difficulty settings and a challenge mode that could at least double that play time. There is no multiplayer mode.

Adventure

A Boy and his Blob

A Boy and his Blob is a genuinely charming puzzle-based, side-scrolling 2D platformer. The gameplay consists entirely of making your way through a linear environment to a door at the end, utilizing jelly beans that transform your tag-along blob friend into a great variety of shapes, such as a ladder, a rolling ball, a parachute, a hole, and a lot more. It includes a total of 80 levels, with each of the 40 main levels containing three treasure chests that, when found, unlock a corresponding bonus level. The bonus levels are generally much more difficult than the main ones, and the difficulty of the game in general steadily ramps up. You will be able to find it at a discount price, which makes it totally worth it.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Twilight Princess goes back to the more realistic art styIe of the N64's Ocarina of Time and manages to mostly keep pace with that cIassic. Link can turn into a wolf to take on the familiar mix of puzzles and action in the land of Hyrule.

Metroid Prime Trilogy

The Trilogy includes updated versions of the first two Prime games with Wii motion controls, slightly updated graphics and load times, 16:9 aspect ratio, and new unlockables. It also includes an unchanged version of Metroid Prime 3. Each game provides a good balance of exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat, all set in beautiful environments that are worth exploring. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes provides an offline split-screen multiplayer mode with up to four human players.

Okami

Okami for the Wii is a fantastic adventure game based on Japanese Mythology. The brightly colored worlds and enticing story really bring you into the game. Okami lasts approximately 30+ hours on story-driven gameplay alone, plus enough extras to last about twice as long. There are varying RPG elements such as the ability to upgrade health and ink capacity as the game goes on; but when it comes down to it, Okami is an adventure game in the vein of Zelda. If you are looking for an epic adventure on the Wii, Okami is the game to get. (submitted by Phantom5800)

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Described by its developers as a re-imagining of the original Silent Hill, Shattered Memories is a far departure from the Silent Hill traditional gameplay. The game is designed around two different worlds - the regular world, which plays more like an adventure game that consists entirely of exploration, and the nightmare world, where your only option is to run from the monsters in search of the exit. There is absolutely no combat in either world.

The most interesting feature is that the game internally keeps track of every decision you make and changes certain aspects of the game based on those decisions. As a result, each playthrough can be a very different experience, resulting not only in different endings but also different locations. This significantly raises the replay value.

Fighting

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Duke it out with all the big Nintendo characters in this simple to play yet difficult to master fighting game. Online multiplayer is available along with tons of unlockables to make for a long-lasting experience. Up to four players can play locally in several game modes.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars

Fitness

Wii Fit

Wii Fit comes with the balance board (pictured above) and includes workout routines, yoga exercises, a body mass index calculator, and many minigames that make use of the balance board.

EA Sports Active and More Workouts

(Description needed)

Non-genre

Trauma Center: Second Opinion (or its sequel, New Blood)

Use the Wii remote's pointer to take control of a futuristic surgeon as he operates. Each operation is a combination of action and puzzle elements, and some can be quite difficult. The short episodes make this game perfect for shorter play sessions. Both titles are of roughly the same quality.

Little King's Story

Little King's Story is an RPG-RTS hybrid that would likely be the result if Pikmin were to have a child with Harvest Moon (especially seeing how the game's executive producer was thecreatorof Harvest Moon), albeit with less of a focus on farming. As young King Corobo, you must lead the tiny, run-down village of Alpoko to become the greatest kingdom in the world, and achieve world domina-- er, unification. In order to do this, you will have to turn your lazy citizens into workers from roughly 20 unique cIasses, each with their own uses. Boss fights help expand your kingdom in order to unlock new areas, quests, and cIasses. The game is also incredibly long, lasting anywhere from 30 to 50 hours depending on your difficulty setting (which you can adjust at all times) and your devotion to the sidequests. (submitted byk_smoove)

Super Paper Mario

Super Paper Mario is a unique mix of 2D and 3D platforming with RPG elements, such as talking to other characters, buying items, and leveling up. The battles are real-time and somewhat reminiscent of cIassic Mario action.

WarioWare: Smooth Moves

This collection of insanely quirky but fun microgames makes great use of the Wii remote's motion capabilities. Some multiplayer modes support up to 12 players, so it's a great game for a living room full of friends.

Rayman Raving Rabbids (and Raving Rabbids 2)

Rayman Raving Rabbids is a spinoff from the popular Rayman franchise. If you're looking at either of these titles for a platformer that uses Wiimote functions, you'll be disappointed. Instead these titles offer a variety of extended mini games (an assortment of events that last for a few minutes rather then a few seconds like WarioWare). The games combine Wiimote movements and humor. Other games include Dangerous Route, where you must guide your monkey to the finish without falling, Whack-a-Mole, where you use the Wiimote to hit moles, and Alien Attack, where you must attack aliens. (submitted by Kenny789)

A unique platformer in which you take control of a character that repaints a city that has lost all its color. It supports 4 player offline and has 8 multiplayer modes. Consisting of beautiful sound tracks and great visual design. Winner of Gamespot's "Best Australia-Developed Game of 2008" Award. (submitted bywiifan001)

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Super Mario Galaxy

By perfectly combining gameplay elements from the 3D and 2D iterations of the Super Mario games, Mario Galaxy is a more-than-worthy sequel to Mario 64. Winner of Gamespot's Best Wii Game, Best Platformer, Best Artistic Graphics, and Game of Year 2007 Awards.

Puzzle

Boom Blox Bash Party

Boom Blox presents a series of physics-based puzzles, the objective being either to keep structures made of blocks from being knocked down or to knock them over by various means, using the Wiimote to throw, shoot, and grab at the blocks. Boom Blox features a realistic physics system; the angle at which a projectile is launched and how fast it is thrown as well as the mass of the projectile and the type of blocks it comes into contact with influence the results of an action. Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure- Point and click adventure

Zack and Wiki is a surprisingly good puzzle game. Don't let the cutesy graphics and quirky characters turn you away from this game's excellence; the puzzles are challenging and fun, even for adults. Winner of Gamespot's Best Adventure Game of 2007 Award.

Racing

Excitebots

Excitebots is a fun and unique racing game that focuses on tricks and stunts, in addition to when you cross the finish line, to determine the winner. The single-player modes offer a variety of challenges and a huge number of unlockables, but the online multiplayer is what really shines. Go online against up to five other racers. Poker race is also available online, in which you can compete to create the best poker hand by driving through a series of cards.

Mario Kart Wii

Play as characters from the Mario universe in this weapons-based racer. Duke it out in races or battle mode with up to four local players or twelve players online. The game comes packed with one Wii Wheel that helps the motion controls feel much more natural, though you can use the remote+nunchuck, cIassic controller, or Gamecube controller as well.

The online features of MKWii are fairly robust, including tournaments, regular races, battle modes, leaderboards for time trials, and exchangeable ghosts

Rhythm

Guitar Hero World Tour

Although friend codes need to be exchanged to play against your friends, you can play any random person online by creating your own match or joining an existing one. Play alone or with friends online, in either one-on-one competition or cooperatively as part of a band. Downloadable songs are available for a few dollars each through the game's online store.

Guitar Hero 5

Guitar Hero 5 is the best version of the game for a party atmosphere, featuring easy drop-in and drop-out play and quick difficulty and instrument changing. Any possible combination of guitar, vocals, and drums can be used in any song.

Rock Band 2 and Beatles Rock Band

Rock Band 2 has a huge selection of downloadable songs to choose from and is the best version of Rock Band available on the Wii. The Beatles Rock Band is amazing for any Beatles fan (and is always a hit at parties).

Shooters

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles

These light-gun-esque shooters retell the Resident Evil story from the beginning in short episodes. The first-person perspective moves through the levels on its own while you point your cursor to shoot at pretty much everything. Lots of action, lots of things to unlock... Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles support two players and the Wii Zapper.

House of the Dead: Overkill

Overkill is an arcade styIe shooting game with funny dialogue and a twisted plot. It's really fun to play with a friend in co-op, and it has three mini games which can be played up to four players. Strongly recommended for a rent since the gameplay is relatively short. (submitted by hongyi192)

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition

Although it's a Gamecube port, Resident Evil 4 is a worthy purchase because of its superior control scheme designed around the Wii controller. If you never owned this game for the Gamecube, it's worth checking out for the Wii.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex Edition

Modern Warfare Reflex Edition is a direct port of 2007's Call of Duty 4, and it features all of the online modes of the original. The main differences in the game are the visuals and the controls, which are fully customizable.

The Conduit

The Conduit is a traditional first-person shooter that offers the most varied online multiplayer experience on the Wii. It features fully customizable controls, WiiSpeak support with friends, a simple workaround for friend codes, lobbies for matches, a maximum of twelve players in a match, and several different game modes. There are no offline multiplayer modes. The Conduit is best known for its excellent controls and technically proficient graphics.

Medal of Honor Heroes 2

;

The online mode of this World War II first-person shooter allows up to 32 players at once. EA Nation provides leaderboards, lobbies and a friend-codeless account. Multiplayer modes include deathmatch, team deathmatch, and capture the flag. Connection quality is generally lag free. Offline multiplayer is not available. Winner of Gamespot's Most Surprisingly Good Game and Most Improved Sequel of 2007 Awards.

Dead Space Extraction

Extraction is the prequel to the original Dead Space that appeared on other consoles. Described by the creators as a guided first-person experience, the game appears to be a cIassic on-rails shooter but is slower-paced, more cinematic, and more story-driven. Dismemberment and stasis return as primary gameplay mechanics, though kinesis is lacking because of a weak physics engine. Two-player drop-in co-op is available, but be prepared for a much slower paced experience than a traditional arcade rail shooter. Winner of Gamespot's Wii Game of the Year 2009.

Sports

Tiger Woods 10

Some hail Tiger Woods 10 as the best golf game ever made, mostly due to its fantastic controls that faithfully recreate the real thing. It supports Wii Motion Plus, which is sold separately for $20 or packaged with the game for an extra $10. Aside from the controls, the game offers daily and weekly online tournaments with leaderboards, a mode that lets you pit your score against the pros as they play real courses in real-time, and online multiplayer with up to four players at once.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2010

(Description needed. PM me)

Punch Out

Punch Out is essentially a puzzle game under the guise of a simple boxing game. Each of the 13 opponents has a unique set of moves and tells. Once you figure these out, you'll have to use a combination of memorization and twitch reflexes to defeat them. They start out pretty easy, but the difficulty gradually ramps up to an intense challenge. With several single-player modes, challenges for each opponent, and a basic two-player versus mode, there is no lack of replayability. It retains all the charm of the original NES and SNES games, and it's hilarious.

Wii Sports Resort

This mini-game collection includes 12 sports, each with at least two modes of play: swordplay, wakeboarding, frisbee, archery, basketball, table tennis, golf, bowling, jet skiing, canoeing, cycling, and air sports. The game comes packed with one Wii Motion Plus attachment, which allows for more precise motion controls and is required for every controller in every mini-game. Some games let you share one controller among up to four people, but others require each player to have a controller.

Mario Strikers Charged

The multiplayer matches make use of Domination mode alongside Nintendo's much-touted inaugural online console offering free online; play friendly and ranked matches with or without your friends. (submitted by Ojisst)

MLB Power Pros

Power Pros offers an RPG-styIe single player campaign to build your character, a 10-year franchise campaign, and practice and home run derby modes. The majority of the game is played using standard controls but home run derby uses standard and motion controls. (submitted by Jaysonguy)

October Spotlight

A Boy and His Blob

It may look like a kids game, but A Boy and His Blob is actually a fairly robust and fun puzzle/action game with a perfect level of gradually increasing difficulty. Each stage allows you to transform your blob into a set number of different helpful tools to help you progress through the level, such as a ladder, a hole, a parachute, an anvil, and several more. Although your hand is held pretty tight through the regular stages, the extra stages (which are unlocked by finding three hidden chests in each regular stage) offer a better challenge.

There are 40 regular stages and 40 hidden stages total, including boss battles for each world.

Get it at Amazon now for $15. Other online retailers have it listed at around $20-30, though you might be able to find it in a bargain bin at a store like Walmart or Target for less.

Gameplay footage

Release date: October 13, 2009.

About the monthly spotlight

Each month, I'll choose one game from the Wii's entire library that was released somewhere in the vicinity of this month. Think of it as an anniversary kind of thing. I'll be abusing my slightly privileged position of hosting this thread to plug any game I want, whether it's in the thread already or not. :)

I'll also point to some good deals for retail games if possible.

you didn't add darkside chronicles on the "sort by genre", only umbrella chronicles.

and i think you should add TvC on "fighting" (and online games) and no more heroes 2 to action (since the first one's already there)

EDIT: oh and our 2009 GOTY, dead space extraction, is missing. *thinks of any other obvious recommendations* muramasa would be a nice addition too.

i guess this pretty much covers it, the rest can be recommended by the thread visitors.

but i can't help but notice that there isn't a single RPG on the list, which is quite sad...

I agree with bruno. The fighting catagory is a bit weak with only one game so add TvC.

and great job on the thread jordan.

Yeah, I know about TvC. I had it listed on there before I posted the thread, but I like to wait to see if a lot of people actually recommend it. Same thing with NMH2. So far, both of those are looking good.

And I still need to go through the "by genre" list and add quite a few games. I still want to be picky, but I won't be as picky as before because now it's pretty much "these are the best Wii games of this genre" rather than a general "these are the best Wii games period."

Thanks for the suggestions, though. Keep em coming. I'm keeping track.

Ogre Battle

Ogre Battle is awesome. I highly recommend it.

Any Strategy RPG fans who missed Phantom Brave on the PS2 might want to pick up the improved Wii port.A boy and his blob is a really good puzzle/platformer game too.

i think we have enough TvC recommendations, and having DS chronicles in one part but not in the other doesn't make much sense :P and i think if you're already recommending the first, it doesn't make much sense if you don't recommend NMH2 :P

If anyone wants to contribute, I still need descriptions for these games:

  • House of the Dead Overkill
  • TvC
  • A Boy and his Blob
  • EA Sports Active (and More Workouts)
  • Dokapon Kingdom
  • Chocobo's Dungeon
  • MLB Power Pros

PM me a description if you're interested. Keep it short and to the point. It should only provide enough information to let someone know if they should look into the game more.

As for the sports genre, I would recommendPro Evolution Soccer 10(PES 10). It has got a different control scheme from the other consoles, where you get to control your team much better than on the other consoles. It has also got much better realistic graphics, compared to FIFA 10. If you are football fan, it's a must have. This year it has even got Champions League and Europa League licenses included.

Yeah, I know how you feel, in my union I had a database where I had information on EVERY member in the union (over 200) and I used spoiler tags for EVERY one of them, and since GS was forcing me to put all of the spoiler tags TOGETHER without spaces, I ended up with a wall of text that made editing it a pain in the ass.

I am trying to decide between Overlord Dark Legend and Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga. I am leaning towards Overlord since it looks fun and the graphics remind me a lot of Fable. I know its different but they look the same. Eldar Saga caught me eye since its an RPG on the Wii but the reviews say it was pretty bad. Whats the deal with the online in that game, I know its co-op but is Wii speak supported?

Apparently not... :( I haven't played NMH2 yet and I don't know much about the other two, so I can't be much help.

I'll take a stab at it, though. If you play that much per day, you'd probably be better off renting NMH2. If it's anything like the first one, there will be replay value, but you'll probably beat it within a week at that pace, at least from what I've heard.

Ask about the other two closer to release. Most recommendations would just be guesses at this point.

I have just recieved a Wii Points Card 2000 and am wondering what to get on it. I'm really not interested in any of the VC games, as they can be played on my computer. I was thinking about Lost Winds: Winter of the Melodias and Harvest Moon, but I've heard that Lost Winds only has a core gameplay of around 4-5 hours. Is LostWinds worth it, and are there any other Single-Player games that are worth getting?

(Not interested in any multiplayer games)

Thanks :)

Yes, Lost Winds is awesome. Get both of them, because the gameplay of the second builds directly off the gameplay of the first. For $10, you get exactly what you pay for in terms of gameplay time. Do the math for a regular retail platformer at $50, and it comes out to just about right. The second game is definitely better than the first, but they're both very fun.

Swords and Soldiers is a fun RTS game off Wiiware. Its side scrolling and you have to select what kinds of troops to send out against the opponent. It starts off easy at first but the difficulty picks up since there will be different objectives later on. I would give it a good look.
