besides the usual ones( chrono trigger,TWEWY, FFIV and pokemon) which rpgs I should look into? I want something that's not too easy and not too hard with lots of content and rpg abilities. I already have the gen 4 and gen 5 pokemon games and DQIX and they are kind of on the easy side even though I like their gameplay.

Dragon Quest IV- IX (especially IX) the Pokemon games (although judging by your avatar you already know that) Knights in the Nightmare, Final fantasy IV, Final Fantasy 4 Heroes of Light, Chrono Trigger.

If you like Pokemon there's also dragon quest Monsters Joker games (two of them) and there's an abundance of Shin Megami tensei games, although I haven't beaten a game in either series on the DS. Although Shin Megami tensei IV on 3DS rocks.

Besides the abundance of Pokemon, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, and Shin Megami Tensei games, here are others. The DS was an RPG machine. Also, are you interested in tactical games?

There is Etrian Odyssey, My World My Way, Disgaea, Suikoden Tierkres, The World Ends With You, Infinite Space, Magical Starsign, Nostalgia, Luminous Arc, Dawn of Heroes, Contact, Might & Magic, Phantasy Star, LostMagic, Orcs & Elves, and Summon Night.

Is it odd that I've never heard of The Dark Spire... I've never seen anyone mention it on forums or seen it on store shelves. It might be one of the only games that truly is under the radar in this thread.

@Minishdriveby: Apparently it's an even more bare bones and tougher version of Etrian Odyssey. Honestly I've heard it's not that good.

also, I am also looking for the combat to be a little faster pace for me. I only know the latest pokemon games and DQIX (like I mention in the op) fits the bill.

@TheShadowLord07: in all fairness looks like a really good game.. i did not find the drive to finish it.. it might have been the atrocious voice acting or the passable story.. or it might even have been the fact that i got p4g for the vita the same time i got this.. i just could not finish it.

I loved Suikoden Tierkres! What was wrong with the story? I always enjoy multiverse stories, as long as they make sense which it did.
