I'm big on Megaman, Contra, Metal Slug etc. and get a bunch of games on Steam. I pretty much have all the original Megaman, X and Zero games on the Wii U but was wondering what other cool games there are outside the virtual console. I know the run n gun genre is pretty much an afterthought and that only a few of us still truly love the genre but, there seem to be a great amount on Steam, which is great! We're talking about games on the eshop though. Is there anything worth looking at?

Yoshi Woolly World is good shooter also. Star Fox Zero and Sin & Punishment are good 3D ones.

Gunman Clive is a great 2D platform shooter game that plays a lot like Mega Man set in the wild west. It's really cheap on the Wii U eShop too, only $4 I believe yet it is more fun than many $60 games.

Well, lets see...Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (I just acquired it again but have not played it for 20+ years), Child of Light (2D side-scroller roleplaying game, tried it out for a few hours after purchase, love it; but had other games I needed to finish first), Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Ghosts 'n Goblins (really hard old school 2D side-scroller), Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Namco Museum (Galaga, a vertical-scroller shooter), N.E.O. (Near Earth Objects; a shooter similar to Asteroids), New Super Mario Bros. U, Super Mario Maker, and Yoshi's Woolly World. I want to get some Megaman games, Rayman: Legends, and Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty. I need to try some old Metroid/Metroid Prime games.

Other games from Wii Virtual Console: Black Tiger, Golden Axe, LostWinds (Wii Ware), Space Invaders, Star Soldier R (Wii Ware). Wii games: Metal Slug Anthology, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Rayman: Origins.
