The Nintendo Wii's Name??

Why would they name it that? It's like WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII. Isn't that childish?

There are a few reasons.

1. It's supposed to unify family and friends and get everyone to play together in the living room: "we"

2. It's a universal term. "Wii" is easily understood and spoken around the globe.

3. "Wii" with the two i's was suitable as it made a nice looking logo.

At least that's my understanding. I read about it many years ago, so my memory may be a little rusty on this one.

In the end, it's hard to argue that it was a bad name, given how successful it was.

Nintendo stated

"Wii sounds like 'we', which emphasizes that the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii."

The e in we was changed to ii to symbolize two people or two controllers playing together. I think there are some more reasons but i cant remember them.

The console was released close to a decade ago and NOW you want to pretend to be Jerry Seinfeld and do your "you ever notice.." schtick?

It was a unique name that allowed Nintendo to capitalize on search engines and social media, the end.

Now go find a AV board where you can talk inane nonsense about Betamax players "If they were the final version why call them beta?"

Why are we talking about this now... of course it sounded stupid...

I'm not sure, but when it releases I look forward to playing Sadness and Project HAMMER.
