Majora's Mask hands down, greatest Legend of Zelda title I have played, even better than Orcarina of Time. I also liked Oracle of Seasons and Ages for the Gameboy Color.
2D - The original, maybe. It may not be the best story telling but it's incredibly intense gameplay wise, what with the 'finding everything for yourself' thing. A Link to the Past was intense as well, and if it's not first, then it's definately second.
I pick A Link To The Past. Lots of great bosses, fun gameplay, easy to get into (doesn't take 4 hours to get to the first dungeon), plenty to explore, and so on, and so forth.
