I've been looking since I found out I waited too long to pre-order... and there is no light at the end of the tunnel in sight for the end of the wait any time soon...
I actually bought one about 6 weeks ago. But it was the gray joy-con one and I took it back without ever opening it. I want the neon one.

bro.... all you need is to buy a blue/red controller seperately and use those instead of the grey joycons!
as far as i know you are only paying for the box.....since joycons are interchangable.
Preordered from Walmart.com, but called to change my payment method and they said I couldn't. Lucky for me...during this process they actually canceled the order. I have since found at Walmart last week, and am enjoying BOTW, Fast RMX, and NBA Playgrounds. Most excited about Xenoblade 2.
It's very easy, but you have to want it.
Set up a text message alert on nowinstock.net
when the alert comes in, drop what you are doing and get one. Your best bet will likely be with Amazon Prime (they usually stay in stock for about 30 minutes). If you don't have Amazon Prime, get your free trial now and I can almost guarantee that you will have one before the trial lapses. You can still try with other retailers such as Wal-Mart, but you'll have to be fast to respond to the alert.
After my fiancee saw my Switch and wanted one for herself, I was able to get her one in a couple weeks following my own advice.
Do it before E3....
This is all a ploy by Nintendo to generate demand for the Switch I think. But some people will perhaps get tired and put their money elsewhere (PS4, Xbox Scorpio).
I agree the situation sucks, but you need to get on your local Facebook for sale group or craigslist.
I got mine off of my local Facebook for sale page for $299 with Zelda. Box, foam, and everything. The guy bought it for Zelda and after he beat it he didn't want it any more.
I couldn't believe I got it, and don't worry about buying used. The Switch is only a few months old, so as long as there isn't any cosmetic damage the console should be fine.
@Jacanuk: Yes they are. At least where I live in the US. They are out of stock in 100% of the stores. 100.%. Period.
About a month ago i was buying something else at my local Best Buy and behind the checkout stand was 3 Switch consoles in a glass case. I asked if they were available to buy and he said yes. I immediately said "I'll take one! U got zelda!? You got a pro controller!?" The answer was yes and i bought it all! Point of the story, make sure u check wherever u go. There might just be one not on display that u can buy.

When I was looking for one and asking I was told they were sold out a lot. But the employees I was asking then followed up on how awesome it was to play theirs.
Those employees are putting the consoles in the back on purpose so people will think they are out of stock, then at the end of their shift they buy it for themselves.
@Sepewrath: Just wanted to say thanks for the tip. Snagged the neon one from TRU, and they offered me 15% off if I applied for a store credit card so I did. And that took $45 off. So after taxes is was $272 and that makes me very happy!

super nice man!
I don't think Switch systems are so hard to come by, it's just I think stores not being open 24/7 makes it harder for people to get one because everyone rushes to the stores the minute they open and buy them up.
Mario Kart. I redeemed a $25 rewards certificate I had with my points, $13 credit from a trade in then like $24 on a prepaid Visa card I had fro DirecTV. So my total was like $1.47 lol
