Looks sorta like Galaxy but kind of different. Cannot wait for E3. :D

As long as it's not a Galaxy world I'm happy. 3D Mario really is better in big open environments.[QUOTE="LaytonsCat"]
Not really much to go on their but the graphics look very close to galaxy

Agree with this. Mario 64 was so much better than both Galaxy games IMO.
so am I correct in that they are making this game, which is not a remake;and a paper mario, also not a remake?
nin3DS
yup, both are original titles.
I am so excited, consider the hype on this game to grow. All aboard the hype tarin!
And omg! Mario can lose his hat!
reminiscent of super mario 64, IMO. as usual, i'm interested.BrunoBRS
Its Mario of course your interested. I wouldn't mind to see a SM64 2
So, based on the screens, and what Iwata-san was describing it to be, is Mario galaxy, on 3DS, without space, and possibly a tanooki suit? ...SOLD.

He can lose his hat in several games :P
I seriously hope not. Mario is way better with more linear gameplay based on platforming. It's not a good idea to go back to the big open levels based primarily on exploration. The galaxy formula is fine and I hope this game stays with it and improves upon it. Even if they don't necessarily stick with the space setting. As long as the platforming and level design is as good as the Galaxy games with just as much variety in the environments I'm happy. Linear platformers>>>>>>>non linear platformers. It looks more like SM64. Finally! :D

Ok after reading this post I had another look at the screens.....you may be right! Unless the one that looks like little mario is just the result of the camera angle or a level specific thing. But damn I'm intrigued now! To be honest I think Mario should have done this years ago. I find it really stupid how the health system is based on coins, and there are coins everywhere! Makes the game too easy. If they are switching to a 2D Mario style health system then I'm very interested. Limited mushrooms and other powerups in the levels should make for some good challenge.Looks like there will be the little to big Mario transition health system.

I have to ask because I'm really confused. How are people getting more of a Mario 64 vibe than Galaxy? The screens don't exactly show huge explorable environments. The graphics look like Galaxy and those few screens certainly don't look dissimilar to the level designs you see in the Galaxy games.

What do you mean like Galaxy? Is it supposed to be rather linear and not as open world like as 64 and sunshine? I kind of wish it was open world like those, but this does look amazing never the less!
I think I'm probably more excited for the '2D' Mario ("New Super Mario Bros" type game) than the 3D one (though of course both will be awesome).
Hadn't seen this elsewhere on the forum, so in case anyone's curious:
"When Super Mario becameSuper Mario 64, the range of players narrowed greatly," said Miyamoto. "When asked 'what will we do on 3DS,' the answer is, of course, we'll make both (2D and 3D). They both have their own appeal.
"In 2D Mario it's difficult to tell when they [objects/enemies] will hit the player, so we were only able to use these [depth/visual tricks] lightly. However, we'll be able to use this type of thing quite a bit on the 3DS."
- Iwata: "You went more in-depth than I'd been expected. This is the first I've heard of this."
- Miyamoto: "No good? Don't tell any game magazine people."
