So who's going for 100% in DKC:TF?

And I mean everything.

- Every secret exit

- Every puzzle piece

- Every KONG

- Shiny Gold speed run in each level

- Finish the game in hard mode, so 200% completion. Particularly hard because there are no check points.

Seems like a big challenge...

But I'm going for it, although I don't know if I can be bothered going for shiny gold for each level. I'll be happy with just a gold. Definitely a hard game if you're going the whole way.

Add me if you're doing the speed runs. I'm keen on competing for high scores in my friends list (which is practically empty...). I don't think I have time for competing on the world stage.

I stopped at about 108% or something, partially because the review is due, and partially because I'm ready to move on. I found all the secret exits and collected all the KONG letters, and that was a ton of fun.

If I had nothing else to play, I'd probably go through Hard mode because that seems like an awesome challenge, but with other things to play, I'm content with completing the first world on Hard and leaving it at that for now.

Me, i'm just taking my sweet time..

Speaking of time attacks, some people found some crazy exploits, one was 30 seconds for the 4th boss

@JordanElek: Ah fair enough. I might do the same, given that there are a few games coming out in March I'm interested in.

@Chozofication: Ha! I just watched the fourth boss time attack. 38 seconds. He totally played by the rules though, that puffer fish is just too slow :P I love watching all the little tricks people learn. For example, in boss 1, using the two guards to get more height and kill the fish quicker.

Aside from no checkpoints, what else does Hard Mode include?

Pretty much you get 1 heart and no extra hearts or Kong buddy barrels found in the level. No check points. Also, you can play as any Kong character alone (e.g choose Dixie to play with instead of DK).

So essentially, you have to complete the entire level in one go without getting hit. A perfect run in each level.

@Chozofication: Had a go at the world 4 boss, and I got top 7 in the world :P I could improve this, but I don't think it'd be worth my time. This level in particular is luck based (dependent on heart respawns which is somewhat randomised).

Indeed. I'm glad there's this kind of difficulty in the post-game. I found the main campaign to be on the easy side (it was still fun playing through the levels though), just because I'm used to platformers. It's good to know that this is a challenging game for various skill types.

Finding all the puzzle pieces is very difficult, it's so easy to overlook one. So I don't think I'll ever get 100% completion

Also, no checkpoints mode ? That's insane.

I'm definitely going for everything in this game. I'm currently working on 200% completion and after that, I'll probably attempt the speed runs, but those are clearly the hardest challenges in the game. That's the one thing I cold not do in Returns.

I wonder if getting all the blue Kong letters in Hard mode does anything. I've got every one up to the end of world 3 so far.

I was planning to before the game came out, but now I can't even bring myself to even finish the second world. It's without question the worst game Retro has ever made.

Like Donkey Kong Country Returns, I'll just focus on completing each level and collecting all the letters and puzzle pieces. Never was any good at the time trials in Returns, so I'm going to save myself the aggravation and avoid them in Tropical Freeze. =P

I am just going to get all the letters, puzzle pieces, and secret exits.

No time trials for me. I am not a big fan of those on platformers.

I don't know, I'm just enjoying the ride through the base game right now. I am getting all the KONG letters in a world and beating all levels before moving on to the next world.

I'll get to 100%. I just need to beat the 3 levels in World 7 and get their Puzzle Pieces and Kong Letters and I'm missing like 5 of those toy capsule things.

I racked up 999 coins by the last world, so I put all of them into the machine at once and mashed the A button for about ten minutes. I got all of them.

Did anybody else pretty much ignore Funky's store for the whole game? I bought a character barrel two or three times when a secret exit or puzzle piece required a specific Kong, but that's it. The other stuff seemed worthless.

I also only used the super attack thing once, the first time it prompts you to do it. That also seemed worthless.

I used Funky Kong's shop a bit. Had to buy some lifes and Dixie barrels, plus the toys. Also got Squak a few times. I used Dixies high five ability on the final boss to give me more hearts lol.

I never did the super attack until I beat the game. I was like "oh yeah, this thing". Pretty worthless to me, but I guess others would appreciate this. The first time it teaches you to do it, I pretty much just ran past it without reading what the pig has to say, so I didn't really notice it.

Also, I haven't even been inside Funky's store yet lol. I might go in when I can be bothered, just to make sure I see everything about the game :P

EDIT:
@Master_Of_Fools Oh there are toys in his shop? I'll definitely have to check it out then. So I'm guessing there like a bunch of collectible toys or something in each world?

No, it's just a random drop. Put three(?) coins into the machine and you get a random figurine of one of the characters in the game. There are duplicates, so you need to spend a lot of coins and hope to get lucky.

Ah ok. I better spend some then, I've got 999 coins, so each time I play a level and collect more coins, it's adding to nothing. So the gambling(?) sounds like a good way of putting them to good use :P

I just beat the final boss today. That battle was brutal.

After about 20 tries I was able to beat him with one heart left. I was extremely nervous and my hands were all sweaty as he charged me for the last time and I was able to land a hit.

Now all that is left, sadly, is finishing the K level of world 6 and the extra content after that.

I'm busy with college-type stuff, but the game definitely deserves it. And without spoiling it the perk of playing in hard mode, however small, is still interesting incentive.

... but we'll see. Some of the bosses seem like they could be a real pain in hard mode.

I did 7-1.

Maybe it is just me, but I thought that when compared to some of the K levels it was shorter. Are 7-2 and 7-3 longer or are they pretty much the same length?

I love the music in those stages. It's the catchiest tune in the game. I wish more of the songs were like that.

Pretty much the catchiest music I've ever heard

@Pikminmaniac: I might agree. Each world had a pretty different style of music and World 1 was easily the catchiest. When I hear this song I almost want to stop playing and do a silly dance with someone.

World 7 would be my personal least favorite ... my completely subjective opinion. The whole soundtrack is great. I haven't savored the soundtrack of a video game this much since the N64 days (with the likes of Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, and Ocarina of Time.)

I preferred some of the more serious sounding tracks, like Scorch 'N' Torch and Homecoming Hijinx. The latter was also played during Cliffside Slide, which was one of my favorite stages from the game.

And yeah, I will agree that the soundtrack for World 7 is lame, especially when compared to the sonic greatness that is all over the rest of the game.

You guys are crazy. Maybe I just like the old-school, quick-looping bounciness of music that was prolific in the NES era.

The more epic songs in Tropical Freeze are awesome in a vacuum, but they generally don't fit the frantic gameplay in those levels.

This is the kind of music I like in a game like this:

lol, that sucks so much. I remember getting a new one maybe ten drops before the end. I thought for sure I must've missed a couple, but I went through the lists afterward and had all of them. What a stupid way to do collectable figurines.
