I used to have the original DS but I lost it and never saw it again. :( Around a year has passed since and I am starting to think about getting a DS lite because of the games I missed when I had no DS. But I'm just not sure because I think Nintendo is going to stop making games for the DS because of the Wii's launch. They always abandoned their older system when I knew one is released. Is there enough good games coming out for the DS in 2008 that I should buy one now?

yes, you should. Its going to be a while before they come out with the new gameboy. Butthe new onewill come out in two years so you might think about how much you are going to use it.

i dont think you need to worry about nintendo "abandoning" the DS any time soon... even with the overwhelming success of the Wii.. they are two different things altogether, and a lot of the DS's charm is that you can take it with you, whereas the Wii is obviously solely a console for use at home. if anything, there will be a new handheld in a few years, but if nintendo plays it right, the new handheld will be backwards compatible, just like all the newer systems (DS, XBOX360, PS3, PS2, etc. etc..)

The wii is a console and the DS is a handheld two different systems so I would not worry about the DS going any where soon. If you get the new DS Lite may I suggest you get the new Gold P/H bundle. This is so Sweet!!!!
