I've had a 3DS XL for three and a half years. When the New 3DS (not XL) wasn't available and the New XL was 240$ (in Canada), upgrading was too expensive. But since the 200$ 3D Land-New 3DS bundle came out, I might upgrade. But is there really a big difference between the old 3DS and the new one? Is it worth upgrading from original XL-New 3DS for 200$ Canadian (154$ US)?

(One problem is that I already have Super Mario 3D Land.)

It isnt really a big difference. Though the system itself is just nicer then the old system.

@TJDMHEM: What features really make the difference, in your opinion?

The New 3DS is a good upgrade over the original 3DS. So good for it.

@stanleyhudson12: New 3DS models have few benefits, but are still benefits.

If you play games that are improved with the the C-stick? Such as Monster Hunter, Resident Evil/Biohazard, or Kid Icarus?

It's worth looking into, seeing as it's more accessible than the clunky Circlepad Pro_

If you'd like to buy the Snes/Sfam games only available on the newer models?

It's worth looking into_

However if neither of these two reasons have any benefit to you?

Then no_

The older models work just fine, and the New models only slightly improve the quality over 'some' 3DS titles.

Yeah, neither of those really apply to me. From what I'm hearing, it's probably not worth upgrading now. I might buy it if there's a sale at Black Friday, but I'll probably use my original XL until it's either broken or outdated, it still works fine.

Thanks for the help!

Do you use the 3D and do you want to play the slightly more ugly version of Xenoblade that badly.

If you answered no to either, it's not worth a premium.

snes games like a link to the past are exlclusive to the new 3ds, so that should be taking into consideration as well.

@TheShadowLord07: Far cheaper, almost better ways to play those titles too.

I just picked up a New 3DS XL in black on sale at Target. I upgraded from a 2DS, which before the 2DS I had a normal OG 3DS XL.

Considering the NX probably won't be released until March 2017, and I am doing a lot of traveling between now and then, I think the $160 I paid for it new was worth it.

Just try to get an IPS screen :)

Upgraded to a N3DS XL last July and I thought it was worth it. I was interested in the c-stick and a faster system sounded nice on paper. The main reason I got it though was because I had quite a bit of spare cash and the Hyrule Edition looked nice. So if you're not that interested in the new features then don't bother, a 3DS XL is perfectly fine.

This is pretty much what you will get with the new 3DS:

1. Faster load times and slightly better visuals in MH4U

2. Faster load times in Super Smash Bros

3. SNES Games

4. Better Framerate and improved controls in Hyrule Warriors legends

Save money for NX, unless you can get it for a good deal.

I'd say no, unless you really want to play SNES games and get better framerate in Monster Hunter. That little extra nub for camera control is horrible and I try to use it as little as possible, and the 3D effect isn't much better on the New. If you don't use 3D, the slightly better effect doesn't even matter.
