Ok people, I need some opinions here!

So I still have the original fat DS model (yeah, I know), and this summer, maybe sometime in May,I'm planning to purchase a new DS, and I've decided I want a DSi and not a DS Lite. So now my decision is between the DSi and DSi XL coming out in a few days. I just want to know, how many of you are planning on getting a DSi XL, or already have one preordered? Or maybe some of you imported the XL or something. I just need some help deciding this. I've heard that the XL has better battery life? And pre-loaded software? But it's a higher price right? Please tell me what you guys think, I need to upgrade already!!

And yes, I'm aware that the 3DS was announced, so don't bring that up. I'll get that eventually ;)

Personally I would get the DSi.

The main advantages of the XL is the screen size and viewing angle, but it also lowers the systems portability. It's really about what you want it to do.

But, on the other hand, I've heard it can distort text based games and photos slightly, and doesn't address any of the pre existing problems with the DSi, so yeah.

My DS Lite broke over a year ago, and I recently decided to get the XL. I am getting it strictly for the bigger screens. 95% of the time I play I will be at home, so I'm not worried about the slightly larger size of the system. The graphics complaints about the larger screen are overstated, as the comparison I have seen have shown little to no distortion. For me, an extra $20 for a 90% larger screen is worth it.

I don't really care about the camera or other features. I just want that big, bright graphical goodness!

Thanks for the input guys, but the different opinions don't help, lol :P. I really like the looks of the larger screens on the XL, and nakasa5, I also play my DS 90% of the time at my house, so the portablility doesn't worry me either.

Depends on 1 thing IMO:

Do you care about portability / will you be playing it a lot outside of the house?

Yes = DSi

No = DSi XL

Me personally, I'll be getting a DSi XL on launch day because I won't be playing it outside of my house often, and the brighter screens, better speakers, and better battery life are totally worth the extra $20.

It's got better speakers, too? Very nice. I'm really starting to lean toward the XL now. And like I said before, I really don't play portable systems very much outside of my house unless it's a road trip or something, so the bigger, brighter screens and better sound are sounding pretty good.

Well, if it helps, I'll probably end up getting one anyways so my dad can see the text better, so it's not like I'm hating on the XL. :P

Still, this would have been a great time to bring back the GBA slot. >.>;

I'd say get the DSi XL for the extra $20. Unless, however, you actually use your DS as a portable device, then a DSi might be a better option, as the DSi XL is more of a home console than a portable one.

Yeah it would've been. I plan to keep the ol' phat DS after I purchase the new one, and I also have a GBA SP and a GB Micro, so I'm set for GBA games :D

And speaking of longer battery life, does any one know how long it is for the XL? And the normal DSi for that matter? Too lazy to look it up :P

The DSi XL's battery life is rated at 13 to 17 hours at minimum brightness while the DSi can go for 9 to 14 hours.

If I hadn't already gotten the DSi, I might have waited for the XL, mainly for battery life and screen size. I don't know if the lack of portability would bother me, but for some reason, I like the feeling of a portable system in my pocket. It sounds ridiculous, I know, but I've always enjoyed having a Game Boy or a DS right there--never did get a PSP. Maybe next generation.

is it ok to think they both suck? I mean seriously, a camera or GBA port? Cameras, especially when given to children/teens, are not the best things. They all end with the same thing. Porn. So, parents, keep this in mind =)

The DSi XL is pretty much the same size and weight of the "phat" DS, it just has bigger screens and speakers, so if your fine with your current DS's dimensions then pick up the XL for the better screen
