Revenant Wings battles

Hi, I just bought Revenant Wings yesterday, and so far, it's pretty cool. My only problem is that characters move REALLY slowly. Is there a way to change this? Does it change by itself, or is it always like this. Also, do I ever get to move around in the world map or towns, or is it kinda like FF Tactics, where you just go from battle to battle with dialogue in between?
