Rare may have made several Donkey Kong games, but Nintendo had/has always retained the rights to the franchise (which Miyamoto created).

donkey kong is a nintendo IP, like mario or zelda. rare developed a couple of donkey kong games because nintendo let them but rare have absolutely no claim on any donkey kong game. its like the capcom team who made the minish cap. capcom dont own the minish cap...its nintendos game.

Eventually, they just need to take out the Rare references.

Nintendo owns the rights to Donkey Kong. The original Donkey Kong game was released long before Rare came into play. Nintendo also holds their rights to the Star Fox series as well. So, just as we have seen Star Fox 64 on the VC, we will be able to see Donkey Kong games, too.

As for Rare, they're but a shell of the formerly good company. The three main things that Microsoft acquired were the Banjo/Conker series, the Perfect Dark series, and the name of Rare (as many of the original people from Rare jumped ship during the takeover).

its the same as Star Fox. Rare made a few of his games (which were all awesome) but he's still a nintendo character.

I don't really care about Donkey Kong, Banjo, or Star Fox.

But what about Conker's Bad Fur Day? I'd do anything to see that on the VC. Matter of fact, it's the only N64 game I care to purchase.
