Please help- Zelda TP *SPOILERS*

        I am at Hyrule castle, at the end of the game.  I am standing next to a triangle of pillars and I have to boomerang them in a specific order to get the gate open so I can retirieve the dungeon map. 
        I removed the leaves in front of the gate and on the ground, there is a zig-zag pattern starting with the west post then the south post, north post, then east post.

        I have done it numerous times and the gate won't open.  Do I have to do it really fast?  Do I have the wrong order?  Should I do something first?  I checked the GS walkthrough and it seems I am doing it correctly.  It is getting very frustrating, please help.

I beated the game a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time ago but i think that the pattern is on the floor. I may be wrong105506
