One day after I finished playing a nice long game of cod3 I put my Wii on stand-by and went play seriou sam on my computer. About 2 hours later I went to play my Wii and I wanted to see how hot the console was and when I put my hand up to it I was shocked of how hot it was so I went and measured the temp and I got 98F! Now I 'm wondering if I have one of thous jiped Wiis that fry then selfs when they go on stan-by. So now my questoin is: has any one ever had my problem before?

What yakk said.

Not too worried about it anyhow, if something is to fault from overheating, my Wii would be breaking down long before my warrenty passes over.

Its not a big deal.  Just dont leave it on standby for days and days on end without running the fan.  Since its getting hot here in my area I've begun to hold down the button until it turns to the red light which turns off WiiConnect24.

With that off the Wii will be completely cool.  You can also turn of WiiConnect24 in the settings but then some things like everybody votes is disabled. :(

And yes I do enjoy using everybody votes. :P

Main problem for overheating Wiis: To bundled up next to other items. Put the Wii where there is a lot of empty space. For example, an empty shelft would be a good spot. If you have items leaning up against the console (magazines, game boxes, etc.) the cooler air in the room will not be able to enter the console and the warmer air within the console will not be able to escape. Complicated, yet simple at the same time.

one thing is that the fan on the bottom might not work when its not on the stand because the floor will just block the air being blone out so maybe you just need to put it on the stand

I have never had a console overheat, especially not my wii, I wouldn't be too worried if I were you.

But just a reminder to everyone that summer is comming up, and it will be hot, a few summers ago my computer even overheated and I usually have it off most of the day so It might not hurt to turn the wii off from time to wtime when you aren't playing it

If you have it near your tv trying moving it way from it a bit or maybe try and put it in an area that gets more airflow. If the heating concerns you just simply unplug it when you're not playing it.

Bottom is an intake. The stand allows room for air to flow in.

Ok you people have to realize something here. The temp I gotake was from the case-shell of the Wii itself which was 98ºF! Now imagine wat the temperature of the heatsink must be like let alone the actual dies of the GPU/CPU! Also a computer's physical environment is much different than a Wii's, heak my AMD runs at 2.1GHz and its temperature is 78ºF. So wat i`ve been tring to get at is imagine the internal temp not foucus on the ouside temp.

Although one more thing to look at is when the wii is on the fan is on thus cooling it down, and when it's not on the fan is not on. Actually in my case and problly yours my Wii stays cooler when its on rather than when it's on stand-by.

the heatsink , cpu/gpu,wi-fi are all located in the back 1/4 th of the machine.the intake/ outake fans are right by the cpu/gpu the rest of the area is the dvd drive  So that area will seem hot but it is vented out right away.

98F is nothing  it would take 60C (140F) and up to really start seeing damage.

The outer shell of my laptop currently exceeds 110 degrees F in some areas, just from running FireFox, and I haven't had any problems with it yet
