Sega signs up Platinum's trio

Michael French Today, 1:58pm

Reports say new Japanese independent by former Capcom execs is working on three titles

According to a report from Videogaming247 (which itself comes from a now-removed reportedly embargo-breaking story), Sega has signed up to publish three titles from Japaneseoutfit Platinum Games.

The studio, famously formed by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and leads from Capcom's closed Clover studio, was founded last year. It was named as one of our top 10 studios to watch at the start of the year.

The games in development for Sega are, reportedly: Bayonetta, directed by Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya, featuring a character with guns on her feet; a DS sci-fi RPG called Infinite Line; and a Wii title called MadWorld allegedly **** like the Sin City comics and movie.

By the way, even though the scan is in Japense, trhe title is obviously in English, and Japan would never allow a game as violent as this to be sold so they are obviously developing for the Western audiences. Go America!

I guess that's one way to develop for the Wii.

Just make the game black and white and who cares about the rest.

Can't say I'm thrilled from any of it so far since it looks and sounds awful but I'm willing to keep an eye open until the final version is released.

Wrong

There's many games gory as all heck that never see the light of day in America

Also a lot of Japanese titles also include English words or letters in them (Getter Robo G) for instance

So no, wrong on all counts

I am actually right.

Japan is very heavily censored, and my proof is the following game:

Read the comments:

Bionic Commando Rearmed

I have listened to the producer on his podcast for the game and he has said that the Japenese version is censored, and that the American version is the one rated M, as you can see.

Furthermore, isn't Britain the country that got a version of No More Heroes with coins instead of blood? America got blood?

So I guess YOU are the one wrong on "all counts".

I actually think its a great way to set itself apart from other titles of the same genre -- the visual s tyle looks really cool to me.

As for the game as a whole, we only know that its really violent, you have a chainsaw as a hand and you can do that kill with a pole, nothing else.

To go on a possible thin line:

SPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILER
Japenese porn does not contain any explicit images. What does the fact that the most explicit content avaliable not having explicit images mean for its other forms of, ahem, entertainemnt?
But enough of a tangent, I am not here to argue about rating systems.

I would have gone with something like Visitor Q for violence, though The Audition made me cringe more than a few times, and I'm not talking just about my taxes.

I'm really excited about this game. Is it coming out this year?

I'll tell you one thing, the 360 and PS3 have the realism thing nailed down with games like Killzone 2 and such, but the Wii really seems to excel at delivering game with unique art styles. From Lostwinds to No More Heroes and now MadWorld.

it means that although you claim that the Japanese would never allow somethng as "violent" as No More Heroes or MadWorld to be released in the country because they dont allow violence when the distinct opposite is present. Japanese culture created some of the most violent entertainment known to mankind, stuff that the US isn't even close to replicating. You say you dont want to argue about ratings yet you make a blatant post suggesting otherwise.

i'm glad it's goin gto be that long...unlike alot of people, I like to see a game take awhile before it releases...most of the time delays are needed, so people just need to be patient

Why do new mature IPs for the Wii have to have so much gore in them?:? Cant they just have enough gore like Godfather or whatever? Anyway looks alright so far. The black & white style looks average to me. But Im checking it mostly because its being made be ex-Clover studios members which almost garantee that its gonna be a great game.

Im excited for this game because I like the graphic novel art sty-le very much, and it seems somewhat satirical. No More Heroes was a good game, but the satire got in the way sometimes; if this game does the same kind of thing, but tightens the screws, then Im happy.

I just like games that dont take themselves too seriously :)

It looks kind of bad. It looks like No More Heroes except it's in black and white.

Hope it turns out great though.

If you liked Okami, this game will be awesome, if not more so. I kind of think that even though the publishing deal has only just been revealed the game is probably pretty far along as the last game these guys worked on- Okami- was released so long ago. The basic framework and ideas about the game direction must be all set, and we might see this game some day soon.

The title has a tentative release date of mid 2009 for Japan, so god knows when everyone else will get it. Saying that, I would rather the title be in development for a while, and come out polished.

Bayonetta is for the PS3 / Xbox 360

Bionic Commando Rearmed

I have listened to the producer on his podcast for the game and he has said that the Japenese version is censored, and that the American version is the one rated M, as you can see.

Furthermore, isn't Britain the country that got a version of No More Heroes with coins instead of blood? America got blood?

So I guess YOU are the one wrong on "all counts".

/fail

ok.... then explain:

No More Heroes

yeah, the japanese are REALLY censored

I don't know about the rest but there wasn't any blood in the Japanese version of NMH.
Why do new mature IPs for the Wii have to have so much gore in them?:? Cant they just have enough gore like Godfather or whatever? Anyway looks alright so far. The black & white style looks average to me. But Im checking it mostly because its being made be ex-Clover studios members which almost garantee that its gonna be a great game.icarus212001

well, its still a good year and a half away. i'm pretty sure the visuals will get better. but what it comes down to is the gameplay. and thats where Capcom delivers (especially on the Wii)

Capcom?

yes....the same Okami/Zack and Wiki/Resident Evil 4 Capcom

Ex-Clover. Now PlatinumGames. Capcom no longer publisher. Now Sega.

for me the equation is simple:

SEGA + Sin City + GoW + Wii = purchase. Your mileage may vary. This suits me. It doesn't have to suit anyone else :)
By the way, even though the scan is in Japense, trhe title is obviously in English, and Japan would never allow a game as violent as this to be sold so they are obviously developing for the Western audiences. Go America!Jaysonguy

Wrong

There's many games gory as all heck that never see the light of day in America

Also a lot of Japanese titles also include English words or letters in them (Getter Robo G) for instance

So no, wrong on all counts

Ok, ill listen to you, lord Jasonguy.

You my friend, are RIGHT!

I am actually right.

Japan is very heavily censored, and my proof is the following game:

I'm really excited about this game. Is it coming out this year?

I'll tell you one thing, the 360 and PS3 have the realism thing nailed down with games like Killzone 2 and such, but the Wii really seems to excel at delivering game with unique art styles. From Lostwinds to No More Heroes and now MadWorld.

-Despacio-

totally agree

Shinji Mikami and Hideki Kamiya should be enough for ANYONE to get excited. Mad World is essentially the love child of Okami and God Hand. I love the stylish visuals, I know people are saying Sin City and what have you, but black and white are powerful color design tools. This game is going to make me very happy.

you just cruved the question to another whole topic, and your thinking wrong too.

Were talking about violence, and last time i check Japan hates it. While were watching leon's head get decappitated in re4, in Japan leons head is not removable. And in No More Heros, all the boss scene deaths are censored like instead of blowing up and blood gushing out, the guy just turns into ashes. Go look it up on youtube.
