Is the "new" nintendo 3ds xl really worth it?

Hello, in the last few weeks ive been curious about the "new" Nintendo 3DS XL. ive kinda started to watching and wondering about the system, and it looks GREAT! Now, ive really thought about buying a new 3DS XL for my birthday. Now, a few things: Whats your suggestions/thoughts about the new 3DS XL and if its worth buying?

2. i have a ps vita system wich i love, but im not really into it because the games are kinda boring... I DO have a PS4 and a PS+ and i do get monthly games, but.. like i said the games are kinda boring in the fact they cant be played long time/again. Although their is some games i really enjoy like: uncharted, all star battle royal, tearaway, rayman and some racing games. But the games on the 3DS looks fun and the fact their alot more games in their and the games can be beaten more then once... i dunno... now, do you think i will enjoy the new 3DS system? although i have already a ps vita? Do you think i should wait for it to come? Any help? Any ideas/thoughts? thanks.

The libraries on the Vita and 3DS are vastly different. So you can't really generalise your experience from one platform to the other.

If you like Nintendo games, then the 3DS is awesome. If you're unsure if you like Nintendo games, then the 3DS is the perfect chance to see if you do. There are a ton of high quality games on it, so I do recommend the system.

I can't foresee any immediate problems with the New 3DS. It has been out now for a while in Japan/Australia/New Zealand, so you can read up on reviews for it already.

I pre-ordered mine, black unit. Wanted to pre-order MH4U or Zelda system but stupid GameStop does web orders in store so it has to be paid in full, something I can't do at the moment.

I did want the regular New 3DS but the XL will do. C-Stick, Improved 3D, NFC and more power are enough to justify it to me personally. The fact that I'm trading in my 3DS XL and essentially paying $100 for it works fine for me.

As for no New 3DS in US, I can understand why. They likely want to avoid the DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL and 3DS situation they had going on at retailers from 2011-2013. I mean, 4 friggin' handhelds with 4 different explanations to consumers. The 2DS and 3DS XL only simplifies this. Consider that they are likely coming out with a next-gen successor (using AMD) in 2016 or 2017 so I bet they want to cut down on brand confusion.

Though for not including the AC adapter I would have liked it to be priced at $169-$189 at least, like the DSi XL

@bonesawisready5: yeah i did some digging and found out the new 3DS XL is pretty awesome. due to the fact i don't own any previous DS system, the new 3DS XL is a pretty good start for me.

I think i will go for the MH4U edition cuse i dont have any games for the 3DS (of course) and i will like to play right away. BTW the console is going out on February 13 only in north america? or is it going out to Europe too? i'm from Israel, so if it isnt going out on Europe Feb 13, will i still be able to access everything in the system? is it region lock? (the american version)

If one wishes to play games that need the enhanced CPU speed, then it is worth it.

This right here. Unless you're dying to play Xenoblade Chronicles, the system doesn't have too many reasons to upgrade beyond Amiibo functionality and some faster load times (and a few games with camera control). If you don't have a 3DS this is the one to get, but otherwise it's worth waiting for a future price drop or bundle at the very least.

I haven't got a 3DS yet. I've been waiting for a North American release that's close to definitive. Looks like this would be the one.

As an owner of the 3DSXL I don't think it's worth it yet. However, if the list of exclusive games becomes really extensive and awesome then I would change my answer. But right now, the only exclusive is Xenoblade. Even though that is one of the greatest games ever made, I need to see more available before saying it's worth it.

Now if they announce a new 2D Metroid for it and start releasing some awesome virtual console and eShop games that don't play on the original 3DS then that changes everything.

As you don't have a 3DS already it's absolutely worth buying yes! The graphics certainly are a bit dated but some games still look pretty good Resident Evil: Revelations, Luigi's Mansion, Tales of the Abyss (for a portable JRPG anyway), 3D land, Mario Kart 7, Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Starfox, etc. If you can forgive some other games for their pretty dated graphics then there is tons of fantastic stuff to play.

But your forgetting my Number 1 reason, to be able to actually play in 3D. The Original 3DS offers such a limited viewing angle in 3D I never use it. I want to sometimes, but cant because it's never that great. This is the reason I'm trading in my XL for the New XL.

Depends on the games you're interested in But considering you didn't mention any JRPGs or hunting games and that's pretty much the Vita's specialty so I imagine you might like the 3DS more as it does have some more variety when it comes to non-indie games.

For me? No, not yet. I have the 3DS. The fact the New 3DS is rather pricey and it doesn't have a power-cord is also a big turnoff.

Of course, the New 3DS has Xenoblade coming in April 2015 and some people never got that game, so they might find it worth it to get the New 3DS.

Also, if someone NEVER had a 3DS, they may as well go for the New 3DS.

You should very much get a New 3DS. The 3D is gonna be so much better than the original 3DS because the second inner camera will track your head movement and adjust the 3D accordingly. Hopefully, you will enjoy it. I'm gonna trade my 2DS in for one.

New hardware is on the way, the only reason you're telling him to get one is so you don't feel left out when the new hardware comes out

For me the New 3DS will be very worth it for the analog nub. 1 analog is Not enough in games like RE: Revelations and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. The increased processing power also should be handy. I'm getting one but a lot of that has to due with my not owning an original 3DS anymore.

Hey, go to Verizon Wireless and see the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5!!! What Nintendo has done is what a lot of companies have done for the past several years. Hardware never stand still. Besides, it's been four years since we got an actual hardware revision that went beyond just a bigger screen or different form factor. There is always gonna be new hardware around the corner. And Jaysonguy i know that you are saying the 3DS is bad and all but... for me and for many others it is really not. I know i didnt actually got hands on this system but, for what i see it has way more exclusives then any other handheld, and besides that, the games are actually fun and playable for HOURS! And if you are so sure the 3DS is not worth it, maybe you can explain more?

And BTW i know i said im going to buy the new 3DS in a few days, but i actually thought about that and im going to buy it in my actual birthday which is in 26/4 and im going to do that because until then im pretty sure some bundles will be available and the price will go down. Do you like 3D? Then New 3DS XL is best model. Dont care for 3D that much but like big screen, 3DS XL is your model. Hate 3D and dont care for big screen? 2DS is your model. Hungry? why wait, grab a Nintendo. But for real, those saying you should wait 2-4 years for a new handheld is just silly to me. Even with brand new handheld you would be paying full price and have NO games to play. Then would be complaining how you just spent $250 on a handheld and only bought 2 games. You would be waiting another 2 years for more games. Of course by then a new version will be out and you should have waited AGAIN??? No, if you want something, and you want some games to enjoy, then buy it, dont wait. Only question now is what do you want.

It's the fact that the writing is on the wall that new hardware will be coming out, that the 3DS will soon be the old hardware.

Grab one, even if the 3ds is replaced next year it wont have jack of a library for at least a year or two, which is plenty of time to get your moneys worth out of the great 3ds library

It is worth it. Don't listen to him. He trolls the Nintendo boards every chance he can get. I would suggest the New 3DS rather than the original since it will play all original 3DS games plus the New 3DS games that will be coming out. It also takes advantage of features in games like Smash Brothers that the original 3DS can't do like Omiibo.

That would leave them a very small window to announce and release it, with likely no software given how involved their developers have been on other systems and games. Even the DSi had longer than that, before the system was replaced and it was hardly the jump in power.

I have an extra 3DS XL packed away so I'm definitely gonna trade it in on Feb 13th to get a hundred smackers knocked off the price of the new 3DS XL. The added stability of the 3D is worth the upgrade imo. And after reading the Majora's Mask 3D review here that just sealed the deal.

Can you also explain how this handheld you're making assumptions about has been "delayed" and "pushed back" when it doesn't even have an original release date to begin with? Delays that are in your head and can't be backed up with facts don't count.

Quit acting like a know-it-all just because you read the same rumor reports as everyone else. And just because the NX has a controller that's rumored to be designed like a handheld doesn't mean a new handheld that's a separate system from the console is concrete yet. Unless the handheld device has a different library of games from the console (akin to Vita and PS4) then it's just a fancy controller. But then again, you're an obvious troll that will never admit he's wrong so I don't even know why I'm wasting my time with you.

@iandizion713: I actually bought a N3DSXL a couple weeks ago because I never had a DS or 3DS to begin with. I'm going to be busy getting caught up on both of those system's catalogs well into the life cycle of the NX. Not to mention, the GTX 1080 is what I'm really looking forward to right now and not another lackluster console release.
