It depends on if you want the extra features and if you have the extra cash. I had a DS Lite. I gave it to my older brother. I missed it so I bought a DSi. I only use it for playing games so I could have gone with another DS Lite but the DSi is the newer technology and it only costs an extra forty dollars (which I had) so I figured I might as well. If you only want to play games and already have a DS Lite I do not know why you would spend the money to get a DSi. If you want the extra features (DSiWare downloads are the most appealing to me) and you have the extra cash to invest, have at it. If you do not have a DS at all and are buying your first I would recommend picking up the DSi.
