I'm just trying to think, are there any pretty significant games coming out from this point forward? The last one that seems interesting is Triforce Heroes. Do you think there's anything else to look forward to before the next handheld console?

Yo-Kai Watch, Fire Emblem Fates, Dragon Quest XI, Monster Hunter Story of something, Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, Hyrule Warriors Legends, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, and Project X Zone 2 just to name some of the big ones.
Its time will be up by 2017 for sure, but it has decent life for 2016. I'm interested in almost all the games mesome713 mentioned above, so I'm happy.
Yo-kai Watch, Stella Glow, Fire Emblem Fates, Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, Monster Hunter Cross, Monster Hunter Stories, Project X Zone 2 and Dragon Quest XI.
Forgot about Monster Hunter X and Stella Glow.
Currently in Japan, Monster Hunter X is going to be a big release title, there's even a new red design for the new 3ds xl for it. There are still loads of games for the 3ds that are still exclusively Japan-only so far but are following a slow release to US/EU market with decent titles such as Senran Kagura 1 & 2, One Piece Unlimited Red! And Project X Zone which retain original voices and allow us to share the same communal followings across the globe on a more contemporary scale. The REAL question is whether Nintendo will release more decent games on their eShop as this is the real key to longevity for the console, namely the retro titles of GBA, SNES, or even N64. You know if they made such retro games like Advance Wars 2 & Dual Strike or Goldeneye 64 for something like £4.99 a pop then they'd have enough response to actually realize the market and begin to PROPERLY make effective business decisions. The regional-lock alone crippled it severely from the off, especially up against PS Vita and PSP and the software and theme designs difference between Japan's eShop and the U.S./E.U alone is sheer lunacy and I fail to fully understand Nintendo's *cough* "business strategy"....
Stella Glow had an intriguing demo on the e-shop...I've got a copy waiting for me on Tuesday.
Shin Megami Tensei 4 has a follow-up in the works, provided it gets localized.
Dragon Quest 7 & 8 just got announced for localization.
I can only hope none of these need the *new* 3DS.
Bravely Default should be in the mix somewhere too....
so if you love RPGs, it's got plenty of life left.
in addition with everything said, it's also very possible for Pokemon Z, or whatever it'll be called, to be released next year as well.
3DS will reign as RPG king for another year.
2016 does have some decent releases on 3DS, Fire Emblem in feb, Bravely Second, two DQ remakes, Metroid Force, Mario & Luigi in Jan but there is a lot of stuff pointing at an NX handheld and NX console releasing next year.
I think WSJ reported or Nikkei reported Nintendo suppliers were looking at a July launch though I could see them launching the NX Portable in August/Sept 2016. August like the 3DS XL in 2012, September 2016 to coincide with Mario 64's 20th anniversary and a possible HD remake.
I don't see the 3DS dropping off the face of the earth when NX releases but I imagine a lot of Nintendo projects will be moved to it and that the NX handheld will at least play 3DS titles since NX as a whole is likely to AMD ARM based, thus making DS/3DS BC much easier than Wii U (due to PowerPC)
Hm, I wouldn't believe so. I think the 3Ds has one more year of good games until the kind of stop caring and they just start shooting out stuff. But I think the 3Ds will live on in all of our hearts (If not, then mine at least).
I do have some high hopes for the WiiU though (Even though I don't have one //insert Burgerpants looking down face//)
That must suck for people who bought that new 3DS if thats how long the 3DS generation is going to last.
I thought it was going to be longer since the new 3ds is relatively new and they'd want to support it.
@shadowchronicle: Purely marketing more than anything. why else did they release 2 versions of the New 3ds if it was a definitive version? I reckon they were just buying time to last until end of 2016.
And as far as New 3ds only software is concerned they'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they did that but as far as what if seen in Japan, all the aforementioned games bound for Western localisations are all for first gen 3ds so no worries there :)
