I don't know if there is an actual correct answer, but I've always been under the impression that they're dating. In the original Donkey Kong, Jumpan is saving his girlfriend and in Super Paper Mario, Bowser tries to marry her (first cutscene of the game, no spoilers there) so I don't think they're married. But who knows? Maybe culture in Mushroom Kingdom allows polygamy.
No but it's a secret affair. Peach can't be seen with a Plummer. It's disgraceful to the kingdom. Peach is actually married to Bowser. He's King Koopa.

Yeah but that doesn't awnser our question... I think Nintendo don't want to go too far. You see, being just "close" friends is perfect in a story point of view. Mario doesn't live in the castle, so that makes it easier for bowser to kidnap the princess since mario is not at ther side to protect her. Here you go, you have never ending possiblies of new adventures until nintendo dies LOL XD

Maybe Mario is kind of like what a secret service agent would be to a president or royalty--in this case, Princess Peach. This would explain why he would try and save her so many times.
If so,Peach must have full trust in Mario; Mario goes off to save several different females,like Pauline and Daisy,and there is no visible tension.Then again,we never know what happens behind the scenes,especially with these other females Mario saves...O_o

If you purchase or watch the super mario cartoon movies than ran for a little they mention Peach's parents and show them searching for their daughter. 'tube it :)
Off topic: One would think Peach would rather go for the taller, darker guy who owns a mansion and wrote a series about his adventures :P On topic: No... They're just good friends that care for each other a lot. MY question is "what are Luigi and Daisy all about?" The only game I remember that hinted at them being a possible item was Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour in the opening cut scene. She calls his name and she goes nuts when Luigi lands the ball on the green.
Mario and Peach aren't but has any one seen the size of that rock Birdo is wearing. I think it (Birdo's gender is yet undetermined) and Yoshi are going to get married.
I think its stupid, Mario's a plumber, and whenever Peach blows him off, he just keeps trying to save her 'cause he can't get over being rejected.
Realistically i think Bowser deserves to marry Peach after all the trouble he's been through. However, before he and Peach ever even get to go on a date then the obsessed "Peach-fanboy" Mario defeats him and i'm left wondering why Peach doesn't just behead him...:D

Mario = captain save a ho. Mario's real girlfriend was Pauline from the donke kong games then nintendo decided to make him persue Peach who basically rejects the man all the time after he keeps saving her. they need to bring pauline back and make some peach/pauline rivalry and a mario adventure game with an actual storyline.
