I press it and it does nothing, press it again, nothing but it turns on the third time.

I don't think it did this before. It might be the update.

That's pretty normal. It's been happening to me since I bought it. Just happens once in a while though.

Yes, it's yet another common issue of the 3DS.

Doesn't happen to me, probably not a wide spread issue.

Then again I don't know, I don't really turn off my 3DS, it's always on sleep.

Happens to me as well. Seems like I have to press the power button twice before the unit usually turns on.

Wow. Did Nintendo not even check out the system before they put it on store shelves? I mean geez. Everyone and their mother has at least one complaint about the system! If it wasn't for me wanting to play a bunch of these games so badly, I wouldn't really even consider getting a Flame Red 3DS for X-Mas....

Yea this happens to me all the time. I think something happened during an update actually because I don't really remember it happening when I first bought it home with me. Not really a huge deal though (well not to me anyway).

When you turn off the 3DS, do you try and turn it back on quickly? I notice that the few times my 3DS has frozen, it takes a while for it to shut down completely. Look at the blue Power light when you turn your system off. It will usually be the last thing to go off, when your system is "fully" off, and when that happens, just go ahead and give it another second or two and press the power button, it should turn on then.

I thought it was made so you had to hold it down a second or two so that you weren't turning it on/off by accident.

Eh, every platform has something that people don't like or have issues with. The Wii was basically never gave many people issues and mine died 3 times, where as my Xbox360 hasn't died once or had any issues and I've had it for 3 years now.

Yes, it happens to me when I don't play it for a long time or after I charge it.

It takes about 3 presses to make it power on.

I've never had any trouble but I turn my 3DS off so infrequently that I cannot even remember off hand how it is turned off.

This. I leave mine just in case someone walks by with a 3ds and gets me a streetpass. It's already happened once.

most complaints are invalid the only real compliant that is important is the lack of games but they are all coming next year

I think it happens when you leave it off for quite a while. I get that too, the feeling that your 3DS power button isn't very responsive anymore. Just hold it when you open it for the first time in a few hours or something. It doesn't seem to be a big deal :)

I actually tried this out today.

Press the power button once then... wait.

The blue light comes immediately and then a few seconds later (maybe 5-10, I didn't time it) the 3DS will fully start up. From the sounds of it, everyone who thinks they have to press it 2+ times is just being impatient. It isn't a problem with the system; it's a problem with the user.

I love it when people who don't experience a particular bug assume it's because they are somehow smarter than the people who do experience it. :P

When this happens, no light comes on with the first press. -Nothing- happens on the unit even if you wait until you hit the power button at least once more. Yes, the power button "clicks" when you press it the first time.

I only experience this on a "cold boot", like after it's been off for hours. Subsequent start ups work fine.

Eh, so for some it may be a "problem" but I bet in some cases it's some kid just getting impatient and mashing the button because the screens didn't turn on.

When you try turning it on the first time do you give it a quick press or do you hold it down for a second or two?

Doesn't matter. First press after hours of inactivity does nothing regardless of how long I hold it. Second press turns it on.

So you're saying we're holding it wrong :) I have this problem also. It seems like it takes 3 button presses to get the console on. I almost assumed they meant it that way since its almost always exactly 3 button presses. It is annoying but at least I have confidence that it will come on eventually.
