More catchy and successful and less confuse? Nintendo said Wii was about "we" and they wanted Wii u to be about "you"

Alot of their ads and games feature only "U" logo next to the title and no "Wii"

No. They should have just called it the Wii 2 and profit.

i don't think the name was the biggest issue. it had to many problems.

it was advertised as something you can take to another room. however as soon as you walked 10 feet away from the console it would lose connection. also exiting a game using the home menu was heavily resitriced. this made it imposiible to add friends while in game or invite friends while in game.

the gamepad itself turned a lot of people off. many didnt want to play with the big bulky thing. they wanted a comfortable controller. also, some people thought it looked like a big tablet or kid toy.

which brings me to another point. the marketing. it was marketed to kids. this killed any teenager or adult hype. and even kids themselves dont want to play kid stuff. the commercials were only good for parents looking to buy something for their kids.

lets not forget the gamepad screen itself was not even HD. yet the gamepad cost like 150$ to replace!

and finally the software. launch was fine. but right after the games dried up and made it less attractive.

oh and also the price. 300$ when the ps3/360 was 250$ and had tons more games and were getting way more software support than wiiU in 2012/ 2013.

Good point. I didn't even notice some of those issues.

Nintendo is plague with technical issues and bad user support. The network setup has always been bad with friend codes

The Wii u was infamous for having eShop purchased tied to console instead of account so if you have no more access to the Wii u then your contents are gone forever.

yes some of those issues remain on switch. friend codes are back from the wii. also i am not sure about game purchases tied to your console but i think it still is.

btw...

another issue i remember:

many games where you have to look at the gamepad and the tv at the same time. a bit confusing and annoying.

especially with games like:

star fox
kirby rainbows curse
rayman legends
zombiU (many games with inventory on the gamepad)
splatoon 2 (jumping to teammate)

I hate friends code. Nintendo is mainly for kids cuz of that. There were parental locks that couldn't be removed if you didn't know the pin and had to call Nintendo to pay a fee

Tbh the Wii u had better year 1 games

Arkham city

Assassin's Creed 3

Darksiders 2

Ninja gaiden 3

Mass effect 3

Cod bo2

Zombie u

Nba2k13

FIFA 13

Madden 13

Super Mario bro u

Pikmin 3

Wonderful 101

Monster hunter 3

Tekken tag 2

RE revelation

Now I realized people hate the Wii u for the same reason they like the switch

They should have dropped the Wii U Pad idea and just updated the motion controllers...preferably adding an analog stick. Put 2 of em in the box, give dvd playback because it's stupid to have a DVD player but not provide the ability to actually play movies, maybe include a Mario pack in game for free...legit free not a bundle bump and I think it would have been far more successful, probably cheaper too without that stupid Leapfrog kids tablet. Or maybe should have gone with the small cartridge approach with the Wii U...though those Switch carts are a bit too small, I imagine most kids will lose them, I think something like the old Hucards would have been nicer.

Nintendo basically has a lot of fans they keep at bay, especially us older NES fans because of their Playskool tactics.

The Wii U had messed up and confused marketing, was underpowered, had very little features (pathetic compared to the competition) and it’s first party games were not innovative or unique enough to stand out (half are 2D platformers). It was destined to fail.

RE revelation

Now I realized people hate the Wii u for the same reason they like the switch

pikmin 3 came out a year and a half after launch.
dragon quest X never released anywhere but japan

as for those other games? i disagree.

i think this list is better:

mario odyssey
ARMS
Splatoon 2
zelda breath of the wild
rocket league
RE revelation 1 and 2
bayonetta 1 and 2
pay day 2
yooka laylee
fifa
doom
skyrim
mario rabbids kingdom battle
kirby star allies
nba playgrounds
RBI baseball 17 and 18
super bomberman R
RIME
Sonic Mania
mario kart 8 deluxe
LA Noire
ultra street fighter 2
rayman legends
monopoly
chess ultra
minecraft
blaster master zero
steam world dig 1 and 2
shovel knight
lego city undercover
pokken tournament DX
xenoblade chronicles 2
dragon quest builders

like how can you even compare? wiiU maybe had a bit more AAA 3rd party games. but overall switch has tons more content.

If only Nintendo had properly marketed the Wii U, as I recalled that there were people who thought that its gamepad was an accessory for the Wii.

A good thing that Nintendo learned from its marketing mistakes and properly marketed the Switch.

If the name was the issue, every other console similarly named to its predecessor would have failed too.

I like your idea better than what they went with. What they went with was just worst of both worlds.

For some reason I actually like that name. I think that sounds better than Wii-U to be honest.

The name for sure made it confusing at first, but the overall medium of a giant second screen was just awkward imo. The switch was a huge save.

Do you think phones are mainly for kids because of phone numbers? Same deal, imo. Anyways, I never had to pay Nintendo a fee to get them to unlock Wii/Wii U consoles. I used to work for a game store and had to call them a lot. I never had to pay any fees, and I never told their customer service people where I worked, just that I was a parent wanting to unlock a console. Nintendo's customer service people are better than Microsofts, and LIGHT YEARS ahead of Sonys.

Theres a long list of mistakes they made with that console. Shame, because I liked it
