How to turn off the wii?

Using the off button on the control or on the system? Does it matter which one you use?

this is false, i have tried many times and it only puts the wii in stanby mode even if you hold the button on the remote

if you hold the remote button it will go into standby mode. only way to get it to completely shutdown from the remote is to turn off wiiconnect24supernintendo

Actually u can only turn it totally off by unplugging it. Why does this matter anyway?

The wiimote will put the system in wiiconnect24 standby when you use the remotes power button if you have wiiconnect24 enabled. It won't turn it "off". :P
