When you click it the wii seems to turn off but it's yellow instead of red or green. btw, when you click the power button on the remote does it turn it red?

After I'm done playing a game, I press the home button and go back to the Wii menu. Take out the disc and then turn it off (hold the button until it turns red since I have the WiiConnect on). I never take out the disc unless I'm back on the Wii menu. That's the way I've been doing it since owning a Wii in 2008. It's also the same way I turn off the 360. I press the Guide button after playing and go back to the dashboard before taking the disc out.

After I'm done playing, I press the "eject disc" button, I put the disc (because I play this system a lot, and only some of the discs IE games I really like I put here) next to my Wii, then turn the Wii off by holding the button until it's red.

And yeah, I kinda thought you were asking how to turn off your wii and I was going to jokingly post "Press the power button", but good thing I read it before I advanced to conclusions.

I repeatedly bash it on the floor until only a small pile of plastic remains.

Then I buy another one at my local pawn shop.

i leave it on "yellow" standby when there's wi-fi internet around. when not, i just turn it off, since lack of wi-fi usually means "my bedroom" which means the wii is at arm's reach.

I turn it off with the Wii remote after going back to the main menu. I just press it so Wiiconnect24 is on.

If wiiconnect 24 is ON the wii will emit a yellow light if you turn it off from the remote

This. And if you unplug the Wii altogether, plugging it back in results in it emitting a red light. WiiConnect24 is the main cause of the Wii having a yellow light when on standby. Nothing else really.

I switch between holding the button so it can cut off completely and cool off from using Wiiconnect24 or just using the wiimote to turn it off....

I usually use the wii remote but sometimes I unplug it from the wall cuz it tends to get too hot from the wiiconnect or w/e it's called.

Yes when you press the power button on the Wii remote the system is set to the Standby mode red.
