Have games killed your eyesight?

It's been a problem for the handheld games especially. I'm sure people still remember the gba and the strain no backlight entails. Even though the ds has this new feature, some people do not use it because they want to conserve energy. Do you think it's a good trade? Do you guys think your eyesight has been hampered by games? do you think it matters at all and that a pair of contacts solves everything?umbracascade

There was when i played my friends PSP and my GBA, but the ds has no problem like that because of the dual screen. you dont have to always look down at it

BTW get a ds and play your GBA games on there, or get a GBA SP or micro

"CIASSIC" GBA?!? boy.. make me feel old.. i remember my first GAME BOY. Fat, white, and 2 colors. and te concept of a "backlight' was unheard of.

..but yes, i would say that games have weakened my eyes to a degree.

I'm ashamed to say that it was BOOKS that messed me up, not games. I freely admit to reading with a flashlight when told to go to bed... books also gave me a slight drug problem. I love sniffing books freshly arrived off the truck. Mmm, my synapses practically drool at the scent of paperback.TigerBitten

Okay to the 15 year old with they Eyespecialist Unkie.
You are 15. Your eyes have not finished growing. The peak "age" for eyes is in their 20's around 22-25.

By this age your eyes will have become either shortsighted or longsighted or remain 20/20 or close to, depending on various factors.

They are:

Lifesty1e
Genetics
Heritage
Job
Accidents

At 15 you are more 'susceptible' to eye damage from such things as games. And if youve been gaming since you were 4 its no surprise. Your eyes have spent their life 5inches from a screen of somesort and have had no need to see any further.

On another note. Gaming is a double edged knife on our eyes.

On one side of the blade it affects our DEPTH PERCEPTION. It may shorten or lengthen it.
On the other side it increases CO_ORDINATION, REFLEXES and ADAPTABILITY.

Its finding a moderation of either which determines what is best for you.

In my personal experience I started gaming on a black and white Gameboy aka the Brick. I was 7. BUT i wasnt on it all day like youths today.

My vision is now 14/19 but this arised not though games but more so through Army service, road accidents and general age.
I am now 22 before you say anything.

On a final note. The vision of the eyes cannot be AFFECTED solely by gaming. Those who say so are people with very closed eyes and are prejudiced against what they do not know.

Every part of your body can affect your vision from Stress to Injury.

As I stated earlier. Yes.

People who play FPS in moderation have better eye co-ordination and their eyes can track moving targets with more ease.
Its also theorised that people who play RTS expand their "minds" eye, able to assimilate large amounts of information in short spaces of time.
