I don't know... I kinda had hopes that would turn out well, just because it was awesome to think of Nintendo as being the only place you could play the next Sonic, but alas... it wasn't to be. :(

Lmao that's hilarious

Is this the rating for the sonic boom on 3ds as well? I played the demo of one level, it was fairly fun.

Seems about right from what i saw.

Damn Sega, damn. As far as 3d sonic goes they still haven't topped the daytime levels in unleashed (wii) and they can do a lot better than that even.

But as long as they make money they'll keep pumping 'em out :p

Remember that this game is not developed by Sega. It's made by Big Red Button. Sega only published it.

However, I'm kind of glad this game didn't score well as I am not a fan of Sonic & Knuckles new designs in the least bit.

What Sega needs to do is take a good look at the Night time levels of Sonic Unleashed and make a Sonic game with that sort of platforming (without the Werehog obviously - which honestly I didn't mind outside of the fighting). The platforming from those levels is what Sonic games need to get back. Look at any of the original 3 genesis Sonic games (which are still the best sonic games to this day) and you'll notice that you can only speed through certain parts of the levels.

Most parts of the level designs in the great legendary sonic games required you to actually know the level design in order to beat them and you could use powers (gained through breaking the tv's) to access new pathways, you also had multiple paths you could take to beat the levels and they all came back to the same finishing point.

Try to blast through Mystic Ruins zone and you will get killed. Even with Super Sonic, you have to think about your path because you can get smashed. This will show you why platforming is whats missing in new sonic games and why the new ones tend to not be as good (Because all you're doing is holding the Up button and jumping at the appropriate times for the most parts in the new ones, hardly any thought necessary to beat the levels):

While newer sonic games give you the illusion that there's platforming, it's really just more stuff happening on the screen while you're just holding the forward button. This is what needs to change. The games need to get more platforming and less blasting through levels mindlessly.

I'm definitely getting this when it's in the bargain bin. Looks like a great pastime when you and your friends are completely wasted and need a good laugh. :P

i just don't know what happened. it was if the formula for good new sonic games was finally figured out with generations then completely thrown out the window

either sega needs to look at sonic 1-3&knuckles and remember what made it good and fun to play or just put the old guy down

The 2/10 score is quite harsh and may go as the worst reviewed 3D Sonic game at GameSpot. Learning that Big Red Button staffers were leaving during and before the end of development shows problems.

Sega didn't make Boom. Big red button did.

Said this in the other sonic thread, they should just rip of the assassins creed free running mechanics and have sonic parkour really fast in an open world collecting rings, saving rabbits and fucking up Dr Robotnik (I hate Eggman, Robotnik sounds cooler like an actual villain not a joke)

I think that the series has hit an all time low. Sonic 2006 was bad this is just pure laughable.

Based on what I saw on the Giant Bomb quick look, the game was doomed from the start because it was designed by people who thought limiting ring collection to 100 was a good idea. In the first puzzle area, you're presented with seemingly thousands of rings, but there is literally no way to lose those rings in that section, and you'll probably have 100 before you even get there. There are secrets in that area that reward you with more rings. That makes ZERO sense.

Since Sega has developed such a close relationship with Nintendo, why not let them have a shot at the Sonic franchise? Sega might learn a few lessons from a project like that.
