Exactly, a 4 pack of Energizer 2500's and a charger are about 27 dollars
They last longer and are more versitile then that docking station.
Energizers have been tested for decades while that's been tested for about two months

wow, you don't even have one and your already saying they last longer.

rechargable batteries and a recharger will run you up higher than $30.00.

They will last longer, that's just common sense, plus cheaper to replace.
As for rechargeable batteries being more expensive then 30 bucks?

No, they're not

You are exactly right, they do.
It comes down to one manufacturer has been making rechargeable's for deacdes like I said and one hasn't.
The Energizer AA's to replace are about 10 dollars
Plus you can use them in anything

These kinds of batteries have a certain number of charges before they don't work anymore.
Energizers can be drained and recharged completely (if you buy the 4 pack just keep switching). The charging station charges the battery each time it's put on it's cradle. That means that you're wasting one charge when you might have only played for an hour.
The only way to avoid that is to not rest the Wiimote in the docking station but then what's the point?

I consider NOT using Energizers a plus: If carelessly killing THOUSANDS of people in India wasn't bad enough, surely weaseling out of what would be considered fair compensation / recompense by any stretch of the imagination should be enough to make me consider other companies' batteries! A companies longstanding reputation should only be impressive if they have cared to behave responsibly over their history. Personally I boycott everything that abhorrently deceptive cute and energetic bunny represents as well as all other Union Carbide subsidiaries.

My Wii battery packs look like they have standard AA cells inside their sealed hard plastic case. Has anyone had any luck cutting (hacking!) these open to replace or upgrade to new, higher capacity NiMH AAs?

I have it. It works wonderfully. Also looks quite nice and gives a nice place to keep the wiimotes. If anybody didn't know, the wiimote instructions say not to use rechargeable batteries, so these seemed safer.

How many hours of gameplay do you get before you have to recharge them? How long does it take to charge them?

Meh...I'll stick with my rechargable batteries. Picked up 4 and a charger for $20 at Target. Heard somewhere that rechargables lasted longer than using the charger, anyway.

Exactly. I've been using the same rechargable batteries for like 2 years now.
