As much as I love Mario, nothing has come close to touching the Zelda series in terms of quality and memorability for me. What do you think?
There are a lot more Mario games that I enjoy than there are Zelda games that I enjoy. Honestly, there has really only been two Zelda games that I really loved and that was Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild. Mario games, on the other hand, are almost always very enjoyable.
I do prefer both and played both their games, but I have long enjoyed Mario games much more because I like jumping and platforming.
Man what happened to this site. Social media hit gamespot HARD. I remember coming onto my own union with 200 posts per forum topic...kind of sad...
That being said, if I had to pick it would be Zelda.
Sorry to thread jack but just created an account on here and need to post 3 times to start a new thread.
Threads going to be asking how much my Legend of Zelda Strategy Guide that’s signed by Shigeru Miyamoto is worth?

I never really enjoyed Zelda. I only ever finished The first Gameboy one and the one where you could change the season on Gameboy color ... I think? And I mostly only finished them because I was far away from home and didn't have that many games. BotW however is one of the best games this gen IMO.
Mario on the other hand is a series I always enjoyed a bit at least. I prefered Sonic back in the SNES times and I prefered Crash in the Ps1 age. But overall I still had more fun with Mario than I had with Zelda.
Zelda for sure. I love Mario, but Zelda is a series I wouldn't mind being stuck on a desert island with.
Mario for sure. Even his less inspired games (New Super Mario Bros) are still objectively great with minimal annoyance.
A couple of things in Zelda niggle.
It depends. I really like OoT and BotW, as well as the older Mario games like Super Mario World 1 & 2.
Odyssey is great, but for some reason I didn't enjoy the Galaxy-series. So for me it's kind of a tie leaning a TINY bit more towards Zelda.
I prefer Zelda
I had trouble getting in to Mario odyssey. I appreciate it's a great game but I'm going off mario
@toonlonk: Mario everytime. I've liked most the Zelda games but never as much as other Zelda fans praise them.
Unlike most however I don't exactly rate Super Mario 64 that high, I appreciate what it did for gaming but we've come a long way since then. Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Bros 3/ World are my personal favorites.
Unlike 64, I feel Ocerena of Time has aged well and had a ton of fun replaying it on 3DS. I don't think Breath of the Wild is a great Zelda either, sorry guys, weapons breaking and the constant cooking drags the game down. Dungeons are also pretty basic.
Definitely a hard choice but if I would have to choose one, Legend of Zelda would be the choice for me since it fits my personal gaming taste better than Mario.
Despite my username (which, I'll note is 14 years old), definitely Zelda.
A prime example of this is Breath of the Wild versus Super Mario Odyssey. Both are, in my eyes, fantastic examples of each franchise. However, Breath of the Wild was a complete and total blast to play for me and instantly made it among the top of my favorite games, whereas Super Mario Odyssey was fun, but didn't give me anywhere near the feeling I had playing BOTW.
I will say probably the reason I chose this username in the first place was the Paper Mario series, which was just Paper Mario 64 at that point (TTYD was about to be released later that year). Paper Mario 64 has long been established as one of my top favorite games. TTYD was also fantastic. Sadly the series has gone downhill massively, which makes the answer of Zelda vs Mario very easy for me nowadays.
I prefer Zelda though I'll admit Mario games tend to have better replay value...
Hey tocool340
I posted to off topic discussion but they locked my thread, you can go over their to see my thread still on front page, but you were a MOD so why did you lock it, I wrote nothing wrong.
Huh? Someone else locked your thread. I mean, I'm not a mod nor do I have mod powers...
Edit: Hallenbeck77 locked it. And that was because you didn't provide a link (Or source) to help bring more insight to the topic you created...
BoTW is hands down the best Zelda game out of every iteration I’ve played since NES. Incorporated and paid homage to so many elements of the entire series throughout the ages.
I also have some of the best memories and feelings playing most of the Mario games throughout an equal timeframe. Unfortunately, I have yet to give Mario odyssey some ample play time.
