It seems like a lot of impressions I've read state that they eventually end up turning off the 3D most of the time.

Is this true with you guys?

I saw the device at Best Buy and really like the 3D; personally I think I'd keep in on all the time.

they say they turn off the 3d, because people say they get a headache when using it for a prolonged period of time, and none of the games out right now really benefit from using 3d, sure they look cool in 3d, but it doesnt really help with the gameplay. i personally have it on most of the time when playing a game, but if im just browsing the menus or checking friends online, i just dont have it turned on.

I keep it on most of the time. Games just seem a little dull without it.

That's not entirely true. Both Ridge Racer and Monkey Ball greatly benefit from 3D because it's easier to know when to turn and such when there's depth. According to the IGN review it also really helps Lego Pirates of the Caribbean. Although you're right that it doesn't benefit most of the current games, but just looks cool. I leave my 3D on most of the time, although there are times when I turn it off.

I keep it off. It bugs my eyes out, and most of the time after long exposure i can't really focus on the screen in its entirety, I can only looks at specific spots on the screen. Hard to explain.

I got a 3DS last Sunday because my DSi decided it wanted to jump down some stairs (I was going to get one soon anyway though), but I didn't get any games with it, I'm just continuing to play Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. So for now I play it with the 3D off, but if I ever feel like playing Face Raiders or use the AR Cards then I turn the 3D on, and when Ocarina of Time comes out I'll probably play that in 3D. Also thats how I see myself using the 3DS, 3D turned off to save battery most of the time but turning it on for certain games.

none of the games out right now really benefit from using 3d

desk_jet

Pilotwings Resort is almost unplayable in 2D mode. Lego Star Wars III and Lego Pirates of the Caribbean benefit from 3D because jumps are easier to judge when you have a sense of depth. In Madden NFL, 3D makes it easier to spot holes in the line and to tell if your receiver has his defender beat because you can see a tangible distance between them. The Lure Course tracks in Nintendogs make good use of 3D because the sense of depth makes it easier to maintain optimal distance from the lure (if the lure gets too far away, your puppy will stop chasing it; if it's too close, he'll catch it).

While not every game benefits from the 3D, most of them do. And for the ones that don't have any gameplay impact, there's still the yummy eye-candy factor.

I agree with Madden and your last two sentences. But you saying that Pilotwings is almost unplayable in 2D is quite a stretch. It works just fine, but the 3D definitely helps significantly. I can complete missions in 2D just fine. The sense of depth helps, and things definitely look flat after playing it in 3D a lot. But the game is perfectly playable in 2D, with 3D helping the gameplay.

I should qualify that statement: having gotten used to Pilotwings Resort in 3D, I find the game almost unplayable in 2D.

I don't use it for Super Street Fighter IV 3D, because it doesn't really add anything to the game. Where as in something like Pilotwings Resort, it actually matters because it helps judging distance while flying and your momentum before landing.

It depends. I usually have it on for Street Fighter but I've barely played that. Ridge Racer looks awesome but I find it difficult to focus on the depth when it's on full and you're speeding through an area, so I usually have it on about 50%. I usually have it on for menus and stuff because it gives it an extra pop that's easy to see.

I use it sometimes. But with the way my eyes are sometimes I just see dual images. It really does help with Pirates of the Caribbean though I will say.

I turn mine off most of the time, not because it hurts my eyes (it has never given me eye problems since ive gotten it)

i turn it off because i like to be comfortable when im playing and its kind of a hassle to have to look dead on to get the 3d effect, but if i want to i put it on to make things more interesting or when im showing it too my friends

Because of the "sweet spot" I find myself playing about 70% of the time with 3D on. When you're on the go or you're playing a game that requires movement with the 3DS, I turn the 3D off. But yeah, when I'm sitting there actually gaming, I turn my 3D up to about half way, it looks quite nice.

I leave mine on 100 percent of the time. Your eyes get stronger with it, and it becomes second nature.

I only turn 3d off if I'm playing in a position where I can't seem to keep the sweet spot locked in. Like laying on my back and arms are getting tired from holding it just so or something

The games don't look as good when you turn it off. I have no problem with the 3D, either, but I'm not going to argue with people that say that they do. It's hard to describe though, the games just look sharper in 3D. Perhaps it is a trick of the eye looking at the games in 3D, i don't know, but when it is off the screens lower res really shows and gives the games a blurry look, imo.

Lol I used to keep it on 100% of the time then I figured out street fighter is 50% better when its off because it runss smoother.

And also saves batteries :D

I don't unless my eyes hurt, but also it depends on the game, Madden for instance adds nothing and I prefer playing that in 2D, so all in all it really depends on the title, but I haven't turned it off all that much, I actually enjoy the 3D.

The 3D alone would fly for idiots. The reason why people buy it is because its powerful and capable of Wii level graphics.

I have the 3D off maybe 99% of the time the other 1% is when I use the AR cards. The 3D just doesn't work for me and makes me feel rather ill. (3D movies also do this to me) so for now it will remain off until Resident Evil Revelations. :D

I suppose I do, yeah. I don't use it in the menus, and after a few mintues of gameplay, I typically turn off the 3D unless it really adds to the games' atmosphere and whatnot. It's cool, but after a while it feels like more of a distraction.
