The environments are often really beautiful. The game looks so appealing in fact, that I wish I could actually jump into the background and explore the world. Vast jungles, wide open fields, little towns with windmills, mountains, the sea floor.

What do you think? Are you fine with it being 2D? Does it bother you slightly that you can't explore the background?

A follow up question, would you be annoyed if Retro's next game was a 3D Donkey Kong game instead of Metroid? Do you think it will happen? I could see it happening, given how much effort they've put into rendering 3D models into the background already, and the fur physics. But my guess is that it's unlikely.

Btw, I'm not knocking the game. It's an absolute must have.

Another 3D DK would be cool. I dont see why they cant make both. They do it with Mario.

Id rather see Nintendo let Retro create their own IP for the Wii U. A new first party series would be awesome. They've already proved their worth with 2 classic series so I don't see why they couldn't make a great new one.

it would be too much like mario or the terrible donkey kong 64. i mean, do we really want another dk64?

i just want them to make a new 3d metroid for the wii u and a 2d metroid for the 3ds.

@wonder6192: I actually enjoyed DK64, so I wouldn't mind :P

And in no way it'd be like a Mario game. DKC:TF has a lot more context with the environments. They feel richer and have purpose. Mario games are just an obstacle course.

In order for it to look like it does it has to be be 2D

The Wii U isn't strong enough to run a game like that in 3D with the same resolutions

Another 3D DK game would be cool, but I would prefer something completely different from Retro next.

I love 2D platformers so I have no problem with Tropical Freeze.

I would be interested in a 3D Donkey Kong game if they make it in the same style as Super Mario 3D World where the goal is still to overcome obstacle to get to the end of the stage, but I definitely don't want another collectathon like Donkey Kong 64.

A 3D DK by retro is exactly what I want next. They've even hinted at it even

For the record, Tropical freeze is pretty much perfect.

I really didn't like DK64, so another one of those wouldn't be great. Still, a Retro-developed Donkey Kong-themed 3D Metroidvania game would be pretty sweet.

Loved Donkey Kong 64, I would definitely be interested in getting a WiiU if another 3D DK game was actually made. Especially if they brought back Lanky, Tiny and Chunky.

I'm all for trying it. I couldn't get into DK:64, but Retro isn't Rare, so I might enjoy a 3D DK from them. They could do one in the future. Personally, I can see them taking a break from Donkey Kong and doing something else. I'd like to see a new Metroid from them. They pulled some technical voodoo on Gamecube and I'm curious to see what they can do with Wii U.

I am all for a new 3D DK that is as big as Donkey Kong 64.

However, I am glad Tropical Freeze is a sidescroller. It has great gameplay and gorgeous scenarios.

99.99999% of the time 2D platformers are better than 3D platformers. At least that's my opinion. The genre just works way better in a 2D plain.

Yes, that's one reason I don't like 3D mario games. They've been this 2D 3D mix, and they get more limited in scope and more like the 2D Mario games with each release. I understand why they don't give you full analog control, because it makes platforming precise, but it also feels clunky, weird and I want to do more than just platform in a big 3D game. 2D platforming should have never been brought to the 3rd dimension.

I love 3D "platforming" games like banjo kazooie as an example.

So, a 3D DK ADVENTURE game (like DK64 was) would be fantastic. The potential is huge for that kind of DK game.

I gotta disagree with you guys. I love 2D platformers, but 3D is the definitive experience for me. I have no problem with precision in 3D games, and so giving me that extra dimension just gives me more kinds of obstacles to overcome (more jumping styles, parkour-feel, etc.).

The Banjo-Kazooie style of platformer is slightly different - it's more of an adventure/platformer than strictly a platformer. DK 64 was in the Banjo style, which is what I want to see. The environments are just so beautiful in DKC:TF that I was to explore them. It sucks that they're there just to look at. I want to play a video game, I want to interact with these environments. So bring on a big open adventure/platformer.

EDIT:
By the way everyone, I need friends on DKC:TF, particularly for the time attack mode. I need friends to motivate me to be competitive and improve my time attack times, so add me. Nintendo ID: chalmers
