get Castlevania DOS, quite long and hard so it'll last longer than POR. I enjoyed POR more but it was too easy. Also Souls are more interesting than Spells and Skills

if you want to play all metroid style get DOS, if you want classic castlvania get POR i liked DOS better because you could capture souls and upgrade weapons, and there was a freakin' gun in it.

the gun wasnt that good.  it was weak, but with range. i found it as the least usefull weapon overall.

Dawn of Sorrow is closer to Symphony of the Night for sure, but both DS Castlevania games are great.

As previously stated, Dawn of Sorrow is more difficult, longer, and has a more varried weapon set, making it a cut above Portrait of Ruin, but not by much...

A friend of mine just got DoS today, he says its fun, and a lot like SotN. Even showed me a video on youtube where you can run into and play as Alucard. So, I don't think you can get anymore like SotN than playing as Alucard xD. I plan on picking up DoS and PoR sometime in the future (possibly in the next few weeks).

I heard DoS is better. The only thing that would make PoR more enjoyable, would proabably be the updated graphics, wi-fi, playing as 2 characters (seems sorta lame to me, but that's just imo), and I hear it's also easier than DoS (which basicly menas it's shorter).

Dawn Of Sorrow is harder, more challenging, comprises a better story (and characters), an interesting skill system which I find more compelling than in PoR (the Soul System) and provides a much more satisfying experience when you unlock everything compared to PoR.  The only reason I'd get PoR over DoS is if I have finished DoS first (In which case I have. I got both, so I can testify accurately).  Consequently, play DoS first, then proceed unto PoR when you finish it.

The question is... have you played Aria of Sorrow for GBA? Because Dawn of Sorrow is a sequel. You might want to be sure and play that FIRST, if you go with Dawn of Sorrow.

And if you HAVE already played Aria... Then good lord, man! Why haven't you bought Dawn of Sorrow yet?!?!? More Soma Cruz action? SOLD!

DoS is closer to SOTN.

However do know that PoR might actually be longer. It has more levels and they have a greater diversity. I think the best choice you could make would be to get DoS first and then buy PoR in a few months.

Well ofcoarse its reallly up you, but from my experiance PoR was an easier experiance and yet its not as deep as DoS. DoS has a much more engaging storyline and the gameplay and ideas behind it really fuel a wonderfull experiance. The only thing I didn't like about it were drawing the 'Seals'.. there kinda Frustraing :?.

Other than that Though they are similar and PoR goes back to the Snes days yet DoS advances on the GBA ones.

Its your choice. I recommend DoS though.

Thats  All :)

I have never played DoS, but i have PoR, and i like it a lot.  I would suggest getting DoS because it comes before PoR, but i'm not sure if they are related at all.

Plus, DoS has gotten better scores.   So get that one if you can find it.

I prefer PoR since you can use the whip right from the start and it's much easier to gain weapons.also, since it has the whip the gameplay is a little.Dos' story is more refined but you won't understand much unless you've played GBA's aria of sorrow

Both are kinda of different from each other, but still play the same.

I'd say get DoS first, it should only be 20 bucks, then pick up PoR once you've beat your other games.
