Who said it had to be exclusive? I mean if that were the case then GTA 4 were to have no chance at GOTY if they had to be exclusive. Anyways, I'm a bit surprised Brawl didn't win, but hey if Brawl is to lose to any other title, I'm glad it's World of Goo.

I think it's my pick for Wii GOTY as well. It really did a great job at everything from graphics and sound to gameplay. There was a great sense of humor throughout the game and the concept was unique and innovative. For me, the only other Wii game released this year that even had the potential to take GOTY was de Blob.
Don't confuss innovation (World of Goo, creative concept and a charming style) with a masterpiece (SSBB, excellent graphics, gameplay, delightful soundtrack and a outstanding multiplayer mode).

IGN is terrible for Wii Reviews. Just the worst. They spend all year rating down Wii games on their site, and then use that date to state that the Wii is the worst console of 2008. Well no wonder, you gave all the best games 7s and 8s. Seriously, as far as the Wii goes, that site has next to no credibility. World of Goo is a great game, but to give a downloadable title game of the year is ridiculous.
Well there is the thing about it being a non-exclusive... but the game does deserve it. And Brawl really was... a bit of a disappointment the more you play it and realize what could have been put in and taken out.
I should really try picking up World of Goo. But I just don't have the money cause I got my funds set for next year. But glad to see World of Goo won the best WII game of the year.

SSBB a masterpiece? Broken online, love it or hate it attitude with gamers, overhyped to oblivion and failed to deliver, 1st party cashcow party game... Brawl doesn't deserve GOTY, it doesn't even deserve an A review...

From what i'm reading in some posts, its that people are more confused as to how a downloadable title won game of the year. How can people not believe that a possibility? Do they assume downloadable games are of a lower quality compared to higher budget physical releases?
I think it's a solid choice for Wii GOTY, but i wouldn't have been mad if Brawl won. I know the online sucked against random people, but it was fine against friends. And the core gameplay was amazing, simple enough that anyone could play it yet challenging enough that you had to work to get good. And in my opinion no other game comes close to matching the local multiplayer in brawl.
But heck, World of Goo was amazing, innovative and had great gameplay. And to all you haters out there saying a downloadable game should never win a GOTY, I say that to me the fact that I was able to purchase the game from the comfort of my own home, never have to mess around with discs and was able to experience this amazing game for around $15 only makes it more worthy of GOTY in my mind.
