What do you think is the best video game ever made: Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Bros. 3? A lot of people say Mario 3 is but that game is so old, my vote is for Mario 64 with this epic Mario Parkour video, check it out if you haven't already! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xvN5NWwhKQ

Out of the two? I liked 64.

But in general, I say any of the Legend of Zelda games! :)

Out of the two, I think Super Mario 64 is the more innovative game. My personal favourite Mario game? Super Mario Galaxy 2.

SMB3 is the best 2D Mario IMO, and SM64 the best 3D Mario.  I'm just going to leave it at that...I'm not sure I'd call either "best game ever" (really I can't think of one game that deserves that title above everything else) but they're certainly up there.

Nintendo wise it's actually The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Now THIS is something that's right down my alley! :D Seeing as how this subject revolves around my two favorite games ever, I'd like to think I can offer a reasonable comparison and contrast between the two games.

Obviously, the biggest difference between SMB3 and SM64 would be the 2D/3D gameplay and how the Mario experience revolved around the respective demensions. Even so, what they both were able to do was provide a Mario platformer that felt very familiar AND fresh to fans of the series. SM64 was definitely of a bigger scale, and with that came a larger amount of unique challenges, like boss battles and minigames, but SMB3 also brought new things to the table, like the auto-scrolling levels, more hiddens areas via warp pipes, doors, and music blocks, and the introduction of flying.

SM64 is an important game to me because even though I actually played Ocarina of Time first, it was SM64 that allowed me to feel comfortable with the transition to 3D gaming, since Mario didn't feel all too different or more complicated from what I was used to playing. Nevertheless, SMB3 design trumps it still, and it doesn't help the 3D Mario games has clearly seen more refined installments since that point, whereas SMB3's status as a 2D Mario game still stands as the benchmark of the series, with all due respect to Super Mario World and the New Super Mario Bros. titles. There's still a "wow" factor that comes with playing SMB3, especially if you play it with younger players that have never seen the game before. Outside of maybe Pac-Man and the original SMB, I think SMB3 has survived the test of time better than any game ever made, and it's the game that has played the biggest part as to why I'm a fan of video games to this day.

The Answer you are looking for is Super MetroidNuck81

"The answer is only important when asked the right question," and if that question was "Most overrated game ever made," I may be inclined to agree with you. :P

Play SM64 and not the remake, it's aged pretty poorly. Better than most games, but pretty poorly nonetheless.

What, no poll?! :P

The answer is Super Mario Bros. 3 out of these two games. The level design was unparralled at the time(still holds up extremely well). The music is literally made of of a handful of songs that are 30 or so seconds long that loop endlessly, yet, never gets old and will stick in your mind like sweet goopy goop. Controls are perfect. Tanooki Suit and Hammer Bros. Suit are the shiz. SMB 3 is host to some of the most fun, imaginative concepts and ideas ever seen in a Mario game.

I still play SMB 3 regularly and have been since it launched back in 1990 or so.

Super Mario 64 hasn't aged nearly as well as Super Mario Bros 3. It's clunky and simple. Though, SMB3 hasn't aged spectacularly either. There are better 2d and 3d platformers out there. In fact, there are better 2d and 3d Mario games out there.

Speaking in terms of release dates in America, Mario 64 is only six and a half years younger than SMB3. If that time difference makes one game so old compared to the next I'm not sure what to tell you. Both games served its intended purpose quite nicely. But as someone else already said, Super Metroid squashes them all with ALTTP shortly behind.
