I just got one yesterday, and I put the new batteries into my controllers and started them charging around 7 pm last night, and more than 12 hours later, the charger indicators are still red. The instructions said it should only have taken four hours for a full charge. Could it be mine is defective, or does it it really take a long time for charge initially?

12 hours? Soundds like there may be a defect in that particular unit. I've been thinking of getting one of these Rocketfish charger units because for some reason, Energrizer rechargers don't work on Wii Motion Plus Remotes, which are now the standard Wii Remotes.

If the light is red that means it is not sitting on their properly, if it is green it is charging. If the light turns off later after it showed green it is fully charged.

I have an Energizer Induction Charger and have noticed that it is picky about placement. Make sure you have it lined up exactly right or the light indicators may be thrown off.
