Knowing how Nintendo likes to promote certain games and completely ignore others, I've found that a lot of the games Nintendo ignores are some of the better ones. Here's a few of my examples,

Ferrari GT: Evolution

AiRace

Soul of Darkness

Alpha Bounce

1st Class Poker & BlackJack

Zen Pinball

5 in 1 Mahjong

24/7 Solitaire

Pyramids

I got a few more, but that's just a few I would recommend.

Eh, soul of darkness had some good ideas but it felt ironically soulless.

I thought it was awesome for an indie game. I bought Gargoyle's Quest(GB VC) because I owned it when I was a kid and thought it was awesome. I played it again and was surprised to find it was still mostly awesome. Ninja Karakuriden was also pretty addictive.

SOD wasn't a bad game. It's no Castlevania, but it's pretty good for a ripoff.

Mighty Switch Force is fantastic. Good call on Gargoyle's Quest too. I loved that game when I was a kid as well and am having fun with it again on Virtual Console.

Is Gameloft really an indie developer? They seem to be pretty big. I liked Soul of Darkness, it was a blatant ripoff of Castlevania but it was pretty close and was only $5. I'm not sure if I've bought any hidden gems. I get a lot of 3DS eshop games and DSiware but they are usually well known games like Mario VS Donkey Kong and Mutant Mudds. For some reason most people don't know about Tetris Party Live for DSiware, and only talk about the crappy Gameboy VC version, so I guess that can count.

Yeah I heard something about that. Not sure if it's permanent or not (games have been temporarily removed before). At least I still have it.

Yeah, too bad it was so short.

I found Undead Storm to be fun, and it's ultra cheap. Bought it just because of its price, basically, and got pleasantly surprised. It's really simple, but running around, shooting zombies and get different weapons is almost always fun. It has 3 stages and 3 difficulty levels. 4-player co-op too, but I've only played single-player..

I must get me that Zen Pinball game. Looks sweet..

Go for it. I just played through it not six months ago on the original cart. I loved it even though I never even played it as a kid.

My favorite eShop game that doesn't seem to get mentioned is Pop Island, which is acutalloy DSiWare. There is not much too it, the whole game is capture the flag crossed w/ Mario Kart's battle mode but what their is is fast and really fun. I really, really, really wish there was online multiplayer though. You can play w/ lots of people over wifi w/ only one copy of the game but there is no online multiplayer at all.

I was browsing the virtual console section and came across an obscure gem called "Avenging Spirit." The box art makes it look like some kind of goofy mobster game, so I passed over it at first. After going back and viewing the video clip, I saw that the game was actually a platformer about a ghost who must possess enemies to fight and get through each stage. I was pleased after downloading it.

Do eshop games ever go down in price or on sale? On the wii, it seems like they stayed the same price indefinately.

Supposedly Tetris Party Live. I haven't actually checked if its gone but I heard it was removed from both the eshop and DSi shop.

Tetris Party Live is definitely not listed on Nintendo's website. Too bad. The online multiplayer is a lot of fun. For playing by myself, I gotta go w/ the old Game Boy one though.
