After getting my 3DS at midnight launch and messing around with it for a few hours, I was very pleased at what the system can do. And I know it's WAY to early to start talking about a remake, but I just wanted to ask you guys, what kind of improvements would you like to see in the 3DS Lite(or whatever the remake is going to be named). Other than the battery life, I really don't see how they can improve on it. During the "DS era"(I know I'm making it sound like DS was around 20 years ago) I stuck with the DS Lite, because it was very compact, comfortable and had a very nice design. I never really undestood the idea of making a portable device bigger, like what they did witht he XL, but i guess if you are playing it only at home, you might as well get the one with a bigger screen. But now that the 3DS is out, It has the same size and design as the DS Lite, which is a big plus for me.

So what do you think they might add to the 3DS Lite other than longer battery life to make it unique? I have heard some stuff about the black screen of death(which is apparently might be fixable through a firmware update?) and the buttom screen scratching the top screen, but not really sure if many people have it and i don't think it would require a whole new system design to fix these things. I also heard from one of the topics on this board that it would be nice if they made 3d more stable, where you don't have to keep looking at it to have it fixed on your eyes.

So what kind of improvements would you like to see in the remake?

Battery life and the 3D sweet spot are the only things I can think off at the moment. Keep in mind I have only played the demo versions at best buy. Plan on getting mine this afternoon.

Seems like the only major issue at this point is battery life.

3DS XL seems to be the only place they can go with it. that would be the best way to improve the viewing angle and battery life, the two biggest complaints other than stylus placement

Oh - Also, I don't own one yet ... but I hate where the stylus is. I don't get why it's placed at the top, it was so much more convenient on the DS Lite/DSi being on the bottom right.

- Move all LED indicator lights to the hinge
- Move the stylus insert to the side of the system
- Move the microphone to the center of the system, right in the middle of the hinge
- Lighter and smaller system

...wait, that sounds a lot like the DS Lite :) Nintendo, we can tell what you did there; paving the ground for the next 3DS remake. Nice.

Also:

- Better 3D viewing angle (maybe easier to play tilting / motion games)
- Much, much better battery life!
- Slightly improved speaker volume
- Is there a way to change screen brightness in game? If not, then add that.
- Models without a black panel surrounding the top screen; is that really needed for a better 3D effect? Looks weird on the blue 3DS.

Anywho, my $0.02. I know I'll be getting the next 3DS, but I'm actually waiting for the '3DS XL' or whatever they call it. I just need this one for now to play Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D as soon as it launches. I know, I'm super guilty of supporting 3-4 system remakes; sorry :)

battery life needs to be improved. a better camera so the 3D picture we take turn out even better. and a matte finish like the DSi (this of course is preference b/c i hate all the fingerprints). more memory? doesnt hurt to runa bit faster. run DS game better. I think the 3D sweet spot isnt much of a problem for me, of course im used to sitting in one position for prolonged periods

There is no denying the 3DS is broken & needs to go back to the drawing board. The first thing is a name change. Many gamers have to turn the 3DS off after a few minutes, then there is the SSS issues & backward capabilty that needs to be revamped. They should curve the screen inward instead of making it flat, then you can SEE 3D from any angle killing the SSS problems. Install a bigger battery with more mA so the battery will last longer.

Thess are common problems many gamers are actually having with the 3DS, the question is when in Nintendo going to fix it??

these are the two biggest issues for me and are why im holding off for a Lite. the battery life is my biggest issue. its not good enough. i know the sweet spot for 3D is outside nintys hands but i think the technology is also going to be improved over the next year or 2. its too small at the mo. even a few inches in all directions could make all the difference however. so im holding off for that also. other things i would like to see improved but not a deal breaker of there not: i know this is a very personal taste thing but i dont like the look of it. it was an interesting idea but it hasnt worked. the 3 colour layer design makes it look a bit shoddy imho. the DSLite looks much better for example. costs and tech willing, switch to OLED screens. they can help battery life under many conditions and they are very nice. the 3DSs screens are by no means bad of course but an upgrade would be nice. try and create space for a nice stylus that doesnt need extending. the 3DS stylus is neat for a while but i can see extending it every time becoming a bit of a nuisance in the long term. the DSLits stylus is pretty good so somethign just a bit longer than that perhaps would be kewl. this is a tiny minor issue mind.

Im not really sure really, they could make the top screen larger... or wider I mean and they could make the touch screen larger, but I dont see a point in that. If it isnt already, they could make the touch screen pressure sensitive. They could also give it a rumble pack... lol xD nah. They could make the cameras better (and put two cameras on both sides) And they would make a lefty 3DS (for people who are left handed), but I believe Nintendo would lose money doing that...

I can't see a redesign until Spring 2013 at the earliest unless it struggles in the sales department against the NGP, then maybe a fall 2012 redesign

But whatever redesign would be minor. The first redesign is minor (the Lite) and pretty much makes the console it should've been at launch

But the 2nd redesign, like the DSi, is the major one.

You only redesign it if sales are slowing, or not taking off. (the store I work at, and about 30-40 other stores in my town have about 5-10 extra 3DSs btw)

I'd only see maybe a slight screen increase (from 3.5 and 3.0 to 3.7 and 3.2) improved wireless N, and slightly better battery life, but its not nearly as bad as people say. A 2nd inside camera for 3D video chat, but honestly I can't see much they need to add, can't imagine it being smaller

I think 3ds lite is a bad name. I think a Super 3ds or 3ds advanced or maybe a 3ds XL would be a better option.

Oh, go away.

The only improvements I could see at this point would be a longer lasting battery and a screen with a bigger "sweet spot", but those are minor problems all things considered. And actually, the former could be easily fixed with a new battery, and the latter is such an insconsequential issue that it's hardly worth mentioning. That is to say that if a revised 3DS were ever released, it would need to have substantial improvements before I would even consider buying it.

Have you got 1 or even tried it?

No need to answer though as I probably know what your response would be :P
