Is the Nintendo 2DS getting discontinued??? The reason for the question is the 2DS has gone down in price to $99.

Now I know Nintendo revealed the new 3DS XL which of course coming to Japan first, but very likely America will get it maybe holiday season or early 2015. I just purchased a 2DS and want to make sure 2DS not getting discontinued before I take it out of the packaging...

Dunno. I haven't seen any mention of it. I think it didn't sell very well (correct me if I'm wrong), so it wouldn't surprise me if they discontinued it next year.

I haven't heard anything about that. Maybe they just want to lower the price.

If it is now is a good time to buy it and not open it. Resale value goes way up with Nintendo products that have short life spans.

Are you talking about keeping an item unopened, wait a long time until the item is no longer being made, and then sell for it for a lot more money?

Yep. That's why I bought OoT 3D and kept it sealed, unopened. I can see prices going up on it already in smaller retail stores. I keep tabs on all these games. If you see a game is running low on supply in retail/limited amount of copies were made and its a classic Nintendo franchise there's a chance it could be worth a lot of money one day.

I think games that were released before digital copies were a thing are going to retain more value. Super Mario World sells for 500 dollars.

Probably.

If not now, it will happen. Eventually they will be producing only New 3DS machines to streamline the factories and increase profits.

The system has been soldvat $99 in weekly retailer sales countless times since release. This means nothing. Maybe they'll discontinue it when the new 3ds hits US but for now they just announced the new $129 MK7 2DS bundle last week.

Personally, I wouldn't blame Nintendo for discontinuing the 2DS. It was a bad concept from the get-go and it was destined to fail due to low sales. But that's just my opinion.

Hm.. well the system has been discounted to $99 countless times even a couple months after release. So it could just be regular price now? I was wondering recently if the regular 3DS was being phased out because at online retailers anyway.. only ever see the Pearl Pink 3DS in stock/listed anymore.

When the new version of 3DS is released. Maybe Nintendo will discontinue the 2DS. But a price drop could just be that the 2DS is meant as an entry level device for kids 7yrs and under. Since the parents have to buy this for the kids. A price reduction makes sense. But if Nintendo is going to drop this model. Buy one and keep it in the package. Just in case Nintendo does can the 2DS

Nintendo has already announced new 2DS colors to be released this holiday season. Those ones will probably be the collectors items.

Does anyone actually have sales stats to point to for 2DS? How do we know it's not selling well?

even if they stop making it, there is not a need for a bit of fret. it will still play all the new 3ds games that are released i suspect. not unless the "new 3ds" sells at an unprecedented pace making the directional nub some manner of standard in new games. if they do stop making it all it will mean is something you already have will become more rare. that and hipster kids will think your cool.
