They shouldn't bend the rules just for Reggie Bush. If they amended the rules for everyone, then I think it would be fine for him to be #5. But just because he's Reggie Bush doesn't mean he should get special treatment.
And I think Reggie saying he'll donate 25% of his jersey sales if he gets #5 is pretty stupid. You could donate that money no matter what number you get. Or are Katrina victims only worth it if you get to wear a certain number?

If Bush doesn't get the number 5 like he wants to, he should pick a different running back number that other RB don't wear so he could make it popular. That's what Clinton Portis did. He wore number 28 in college and when he went to the NFL, he wore number 26 so he could make that a popular number because not that many other people wore 26. But besides that, a number is just a number, it really doesn't matter.

The league just wants things to be organized.
Plus it's for the refs and coaches to know what personel to bring in, with the eligable recievers.

Some players have a superstition that the number that they are used to using, they must always have that number and if they change it, their confidence just goes way down and their play affects them.
The verdict is in and he will be wearing #25, he persuaded Fred McAfee to give it up. He's still planning to give 25% of his jersey sales to Hurricane Katrina victims.
They shouldn't change the rules because the almighty Reggie Bush wants to wear number 5. He is just another player, he isn't special anymore. Even if he was, they shouldn't change the rules.

I'm assuming you're saying that because of what he was practicing in. He's gonna be wearing 25 now. I think Adrian McPherson is still wearing #5 during the season.
