I posted a thread similar to this last year. Oddly enough a year ago today after looking. What version of android are you running on your primary phone or tablet?

I'm currently on 4.2.1 on my Nexus 4 which is my primary phone at the moment and will for for quite a while. The Kindle fire and Kindle fire 2nd gen are running 2.3 and 4.0 and I've got a couple of other phones laying around running various versions as well.

What about you?

I have 4.2.1 on my Galaxy Nexus. I was thinking about getting a Nexus 4 but decided I'd hold off until the next Nexus or this rumored Google/Motorola "x phone" comes out.

Think it's 4.0 or whatever that CM is on my Captivate. Still going strong so I can hold out for the Galaxy 4/Note 3/whatevs :P

Exactly. There's a much higher chance of something going wrong. I'd likely just try and put the stock rom back on my phone and like I said, there's nothing I have an issue with right now on 2.3.6.

I know tell me about it. I have a nexus which is supposed to have the most stable CM and yet one fine day while I was waiting for an important call my phone decides to go into a bootloop. I messed around for an hour to fix up things. While it isnt impossible to get a reboot on stock rom but never ever did something like that happen.

But now I am badly addicted to CM customizations so I am "stuck" in this.

CM is good custom mod and quite stable but there are a couple of caveats that made me go back to stock. One was the lack of fm radio support ( in my work there is no 3g coverage ) and the other was the horrible camera UI. Those 2 made me switch back to stock. Though most likely i will try again CM and see if the newer iterations are more to my liking

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to try custom roms one day. But I'm on a contract and if something went badly wrong Samsung probably wouldn't repair it. If I ever buy a smartphone I'll try them out because I love that you can do that with Android.

Thats because you have a no name android phone. There is no way CM will be more stable than stock on your nexus 10....

If you have time on your hands then you wouldnt need to send your phone for repair as long as you are being careful about what you are doing. Even then the chances of messing up so bad that you cant fix it are very low with a galaxy S.

The official release of CM10 on my Galaxy S never had an issue with stability, it actually improved the phone's functions and performance when compared to Gingerbread w/ Samsung's UI.

For me it was never perfectly stable. I got bootloop twice I think. Havent gotten one in CM10.1 but it does reboot once in a while. Thats just that with custom roms for some it might be perfectly stable but not for all. I am not alone in this I have followed the xda thread of CM10 for my phone.

Most of these Chinese android products have stability issues.

So you are saying that nexus 10 stock isnt fully stable?

Yes I am saying that Android 4.2 has a few bugs, mainly chrome. Strangely chrome beta has no bugs.

See bugs and instability are not the same thing. Instability means your device will reboot randomly. A custom rom cannot be "more" stable than stock, it can only at best match it because most of the good android devices are now perfectly stable.

4.1.1 on my rooted Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (p3113)

But for a day I had CM10.1 running which is based off of JB 4.2.

I loved it but CM does not have the drivers installed or enabled for the IR Blaster.

Was a tough decision to make for me. Either the awesomeness of CM10.1 or losing one of the major features of my tablet, being able to use it as a remote control for all my TV related gadgets. I chose the IR blaster and reverted back to Stock JB 4.1.1 with a root.

I may get the itch again and go back to CM 10.1 since there is a nice kernal available for my tab which allows overclocking. Being that I am a PC nerd, that is a bit too much of a temptation to avoid for long.

That is the one think that keeps me from using CM10 On certain devices there are missing features. Was using it on my old galaxy S but the lack of support for Fm radio was a deal breaker for me ( well that and the imo not so good camera interface )

Nexus 4 with 4.2.1. It's fast, fluid and don't need any custom mods. I was going to get the S3 but Touchwiz really put me off and the Nexus 4 is practically identical apart from being a lot cheaper and slightly less powerful but again Nexus 4 has plenty enough power for every task I'll be doing.

The 2GB ram alone makes it more powerful and future proof.

The US S3 also has 2GB ram but in that case the chipset is no contest at all.

4.1.1 on HTC One X, running ARHD 18, no idea bout unstable roms, but this thing offers visibly better performance in my case more than 20% longer lasting battery (they advertise it as up to 20% for some phones) and it also does wonders for the Tegra 3 processor, which was underclocked and an extreme underperformer on the stock OS due to battery adjustments by HTC.

[QUOTE="JohnF111"][QUOTE="kraken2109"] Expect a 4.2.2 update if you haven't had it already. Only minor changes this time.Gambler_3

I wish they would add the ability to remove unused home screens.

Thats no biggie at all....

Yeah I've seen a few of those but I'd prefer a native feature, maybe I'll try one of those some time but it seems like Google forgot about deleting home screens.

There is nothing more native about the stock launcher than nova, if anything nova is faster you really gotta give it a try.

Google's launcher is like an iphone it really doesnt let you do anything, even folders are limited to 16 apps I think.

2.3.7 on my xperia u. there is a 4.0 update available for it bit i am iffy on doing it for 3 reasons 1) the response has been mixed. some say performance is worse due to the phone only having 512MB of ram. others say 4.0 has given it a speed boost. 2) i would need to set everything back to default before upgrading. not doing so can cause problems it seems. 3) 2.3.7 is working just fine for me at the moment and i have everything set up as i want it. it would take hours to get everything set up again. if i thought there would be a really big benefit to upgrading the OS then i probably would but, given the Us limited hardware, i think its more suited to 2.3.7.
