The surface pro is going to be the s*it in the tablet world. 100% compatibility with the desktop windows ecosystem, hard to beat even for the app store. It just needs to have good battery life and it is something even I may consider even though I have generally been quite anti tablet for now.

Gambler_3
It also needs to be less than the cost of the market's leading tablet...

What are you talking about? The surface pro has i5 CPU and can flawlessly run desktop apps the ipad is not even in the same league. :?

The surface RT is the one that needs to price itself competitively with the ipad if it is to succeed.

It's interesting how competitive apple is with the pricing of the ipad, a stark contrast to their strategy for the iphone.

I haven't fully understood the advantage of the i5 in the tablet over an ultrabook style portable yet. Maybe MS has more up their sleeve to impress the world. It better be flirting with double digit hours of battery life...

Ultrabooks are hardly as portable and fun as tablets. The purpose of the i5 is to take care of both non-serious and serious activities. The microsoft smart cover has a capacitive keyboard but even if that wont satisfy someone I am sure a real keyboard accessory will be available for it. First tablet that can actually transform into an ultrabook as it can actually do what an ultrabook can unlike all other tablets. Yes the battery life is make or break on this.

If I was looking for a laptop/ultrabook I'll surely consider getting the surface pro because I dont have an ipad/android tab and the surface pro will give me that fun which you can only have on a touchscreen tablet. I donot consider that fun valuable enough to buy a tablet just for it but as an extra bonus I certainly wont mind. Angry birds was meant to be played on a tablet after all. :P

And I really think track-pads suck, touchscreen and mouse provide the best usability in portable and serious work respectively. The only real downside of touchscreens are the smudges. :(

The biggest problem I had is about music. When I listen to songs at random times I'll hear a static buzz. It simply could not have been my Audio Technica headphones as they worked perfectly with my 4S and the files played perfectly on the iPhone too. You can imagine how annoying it is when listening to music you hear these annoying buzzes. JasonDarksavior
From what you just described, I would say you're phone is defective.

The Wolfson WM1811 DAC chip is one of the best currently avalable in smartphones, if anything you should find an improvement over your iPhone 4S which uses an inferior Cirrus Logic 338S0987chip.

Static/buzzing should not be there.

The biggest problem I had with my iPod Touch was when I listen to music using a bluetooth earphone. It would just stutter sometimes. Like listening using a CD player. I would have to reboot it to play music properly again.

You don't get widgets on iOS (yet). ;)

Just pull down on the screen for weather information. Or look outside. :P

At least that iPhone 4S is properly optimized (or rather, optimized at all) for both the cores in the processor. musicalmac
in other words ios requires more steeps to do that same thing. Notification toggle is when you really notice what ios is missing, brightness, profile mobile data on off music control or what every you want right in you drop down menu. I can update my facebook status through a widget without opening the app. If you have never had widgets you don't think they are important but once you've had them you can't live without them. open a bookmarked website right from my homescreen widget, check my calender without opening an app, the list goes on and on.

Well what do you do on your One XL then? Just play with the UI?

btw if you set a driod up like a iphone ie only apps on the home screen something like a htc desire or galaxy s will run faster than a iphone 4. I take many home screens of widgets to slow down a dual core phone. if you want a lightning fast ui then wp7 smokes ios big time and has more features.

Ok i have a question about ios updates? if wp 7.8 is not wp8 how is the latest ios without the main new features really the "latest version" Newish android phones running 2.3 are still supported. The iphone 4 doesn't have siri therefore it is only really ios 4.5, sure it got the notification center but still didn't get the full version of ios 5 and this will keep happening otherwise Apple wouldn't see as many phones.

Why did my comment get deleted? Isnt this a thread to discuss everything? iOS app store security got breaked it is big news because of what people have always said iOS is teh fool proof secure blah blah.

Ya exactly what I have been saying.

However there is one difference. Unified systems like windows and iOS require the latest version to run apps not too long after the OS is released so you need the latest version to run most of the apps. In android it's not a problem as most apps still only require 2.2 version let alone 2.3 but it's going to be a problem for windows phones running 7.8.

As far as updates are concerned there is simply no beating the google nexus range, older phones get 100% of the features. The nexus S will be getting google now, iphone 4 never got siri speaks volumes for which is the better supported product.

Well that's what this is for:

Now anyone who wants to post iOS vs Android can do so.

Android fans can stop posting negative comments towards iOS on the iOS board, and there should be no more excuses for posting threads/comments on the iOS board that attack android.

Obviously not everything comparing Android is directed as an 'attack,' but some comments are completely unnecessary.

Lets look at a recent example: http://www.gamespot.com/forums/topic/29219823/ios-growth-doubles-android-in-last-three-months

Comments such as "/android" is clearly going at Android.

Once again, SW is a place for fanboys to battle it out. They need to learn to use it.

Yeh i can see that, Gambler if i closed a topic and left a note in there as to why its closed take it on board. don't just carry the conversation somwhere else, its as if you ignored us. Funny enough it was a legitimate thread but you put it in a way that made the iphone and its users who praise it look bad, be objective. Dont worry you are not the only one to do it, but its beginning to get out of hand. We need to let the users enjoy these boards without little attacks every now and then. Nvidiati has got the right mind set. I might have an idea. let me speak to some mods.

I think it is about time you turn iphone and android into one forum called mobile devices and just allow discussion between both like many other forums allow. System wars really isn't the same thing. Where are you meant to post about windows phone anyway? Or what about other mobile devices? People start a topic which is obviously about comparing ios and android how are you meant to keep it about ios? Gamespot forums are just full of far to many people who are totally bias to a certain system and you can't have a discussion about different platforms without it turning into an argument about which is better. They all have the pros and cons. ios runs better than most android phones but android is a much more powerful os that can do many things ios can't.

We had that and almost every single topic created was just a debate of Android vs iOS.

example topic

TC "My Android device is having trouble, can someone help me?"

Apple Fanboy "Android sucks, you should have purchased an iPhone"

Android Fanboy "No Apple sucks, Android is so much better"

etc...And like usual maybe one or two people would actually help the TC with his/her problem.

Playstation 3, Wii / Wii U, PSP / PSV, Xbox 360, etc. all have their own boards and DO NOT suffer from these issues that the Android and iOS boards are plagued by.

Just direct all cross-platform discussion towards System Wars and the problem is solved.

Personally I think once Windows launches Windows Phone 8 and Windows RT, it should also get its own discussion board.

The rules on the top of this page look pretty clear to me.

- Cross-platform discussions belong in System Wars.
- Other mobile devices and game discussions belong in the Primary Games Discussion forum.

And the feedback forum would be the best place to suggest something different :)

Back on the topic of iOS, I'm looking forward to seeing how Siri works on my "new" iPad. I was disappointed it missed out in the initial release, so it's good to see they didn't rule it out all together. I know I'll probably look like a bit of a dork talking into my iPad, but I tend to use it at home and my smaller Samsung at work, so it should be okay :P

Does anyone else plan to talk to their iPad when iOS6 is released?

I honestly have no clue why you seem to think discussion about something such as smartphones is not allowed in System Wars. The rules are very clear.

From both the Android and iOS Boards

"Cross-platform discussions belong in System Wars."

From System Wars

"Keep your discussions around what belongs here: platforms, games, developers, publishers, and stats."

Another problem is most people dont even take smartphones seriously in SW and would just come to troll or post extremely ignorant things. Like that guy was complaining about manufacturer bloatware in android and didnt even know what the nexus line of phones is.

Firstly thanks Mj always helping me out lol. 2nd Siri doesn't seem as natural on an iPad as it does on an iPhone, since my phone is my main organiser etc. I have the iPad 2 anyway so its not like i'll be getting it, but i don't feel like it would have been utilised at all anyway. In saying that, the dictator addition is really appealing and i believe the new iPad is the only one getting this!

I agree. I use the calendar feature a bit on the iPad, but only to review what I've already input. Dictation is already on the new iPad, but I've only ever used it to test it once (worked fine, but not my thing).

Siri really relies on a constant connection to the internet, which is why it's absolutely included on the iPhone 4S, but not on the iPad yet. It's also still a beta product, which is why it's not on the newer iPad. I also do not know if the same hardware exists on the A5X that is included in the A5 on the iPhone 4S that Siri benefits from.

This has to be the most ridiculous damage control I have seen in a while.

The ipad 2 has a superior chipset than iphone 4S and it wont get siri. ipad 3 doesnt have siri yet because apple wants it to be the exclusive selling factor for 4S. Heck there is absolutely no reason why the iphone 4 doesnt have siri. You really even thought that the 4S has some special hardware that even the new ipad doesnt.

You dont need any "hardware" for siri, single core android phones work fine with voice assistants.

News flash: apple also restricts it's premium features from certain devices so that people are forced to buy what apple wants you to buy. Shocking I know!!!

Yeah, of course. My only point from before was to simply say that not all iPads have a constant internet connection, but the fact that they're indeed including it is excellent news. I hope there is more up their sleeve regarding Siri, too. I like the enhancements in iOS6, but I was hoping for some sort of really ground-breaking feature. The integration with PassBook is nice, though.

Is the possibility that the next iPhone may have a new type of connector really such a big deal, or is the media just being d!cks about it? Apple's been using that same connector for ages. It's only natural that they'd make a more efficient connector that will allow them to save .01 mm or whatever it ends up saving them. Certainly they've taken good care to ensure it will have a longer run for the future of idevice peripherals, that's just another advantage Apple enjoys over their competition -- untouchable third party hardware support.

Can you keep a seperate password for paid and free apps? You know some people would want to allow their kids to install whatever free apps they like but not give them the ability to download paid apps.

And for every limitation on android I can name you several limitations on iOS so lets not go there.;)
