An interesting proof of concept, a user on XDA forums is running Windows 7 on an ASUS Zenfone 2. The Zenfone 2 is an Android smartphone that uses Intel's cellular SoC, Moorefield. Moorefield is similar to 2013's Bay Trail, but it uses a PowerVR 6 series GPU instead of Intel's in-house graphics.
The installation has no major bugs involved, and runs smoothly on the Zenfone 2, with ycavan going on to state that even Windows 8 and 10 can be installed using the same procedure, albeit with a different ISO. If running a desktop OS on your Zenfone 2 interests you, or the procedure itself intrigues you, head over to ycavan’s thread and get started.

In this scenario, the user had to go through a considerable number of obstacles to get Windows 7 running, but it offers a look into a potential for full x86 Windows 10 running on a smartphone. In 2016 Intel's Broxton SoC will be Intel's single SoC solution for both smartphones and tablets. This will eliminate any hardware differences between an x86 smartphone and x86 tablet.
