Poll Whats better for PC gaming 4K or 1080HD (22 votes)

4K 36%
1080HD 64%

I've always wondered which one is better for gaming between 4K and 1080, specially for PC gaming. At the moment, i've always used my 4K TV for all gaming, both PC and console. However, while Console games work perfectly on my 4K TV, PC games however tend to have a slight issue when it comes to size from time to time.

I've not used an actual monitor since 2007 and it wasn't even a HD one either. So for me personally, i was wondering what would be better for 2020. I have a 1080TI card and was thinking about either having a few monitors or maybe just the 1 depending on how things go.

What are your thoughts and opinions with 4K and 1080 monitors for PC gaming.

1440p is the sweet spot.

If only the two were available ill take 1080p for the higher frame rate

Pretty much this. 4K is wasted....not only is the resolution needlessly high, but it hogs resources.

Would rather have an ultra-wide 1080p monitor than any anything-4k monitor.

1440p ("2K") at 144 hz refresh is ideal.

Only have a 75hz screen, so if the 1060 I'm rockin can handle the game at 4k 60fps, I'll play that. While there is a noticeably difference in sharpness. The quality isn't that great of an improvement probably since they don't have 4k textures.

Side note: Have you tried Overclocking the TV? I've heard you can get some pretty decent refresh rates for them if you're lucky, better brands have a better chance, as well as lowering the resoultion. I got to 80ish hz on my TV before frame loss. It accepted a some crazy high signal though I think it was around 200. Sadly my son put his head though the TV (he slipped), and my other 4k TV doesn't OC at all.

1080 will be better if you have a high refresh rate monitor; as being able to play 120+ fps on the same hardware that can do 4k at 60fps will be better.

I'd say probably 1080p as far as budget hardware goes, sure 4K will be better but if you only have about $500-$900 to spend on hardware, you'll get more out of 1080p or 1440P at the higher end.

Unless your goal is to play in 4K at a budget, which a $900 PC could easily get you there if you shop really smart.

If you game on a monitor, 1080 and upto 1440 is more than adequate. If you game on a TV (55 and above) then 4k makes sense.

Between the two I'd go for 1080P. But 1440P is the sweet spot that dedicated enthusiasts (who don't have unlimited budgets) should aim for.
