The Dreamcast has to be my all-time favorite game system...majorly because of Shenmue and Space Channel 5 (yea..I know right). I loved quirky games and Shenmue was one of the best adventure games I've ever played. I recently bought another Dreamcast and some of my favorite games in my arsenal are.... Revolt - LOVE THIS RACING GAME! Super Magnetic Neo Bomberman Hydro Thunder Star Wars Super Power Battles - Better on DC than PS2 to me Toy Commander - Many Sleepless night on this game! WACKY RACES - Play till I get a headache good!! What's your???

My favorite Dreamcast games:

  • Elemental Gimmick Gear - criminally underrated 2D action - RPG
  • Virtua Tennis I - prefer this one because the soundtrack is the best in the series, and the simplistic gameplay is hella addictive
  • Sword of the Berserk: Gut's Rage - albeit repetitive, it has a good original story written by the manga author, and blows away the PS2 Berserk game
  • Soul Calibur - perfect fighting game with a ton of unlockable content, and an exclusive, lengthy single player mode
  • Test Drive Le Mans - excellent racing game with the best version being on the Dreamcast
  • Samba de Amigo - just plain fun, and a excellent party game
  • Ferrari F355 Challenge - amazing racing game with extraordinary fun gameplay, and the only simulator i trully like playing
  • Project Justice - fantastic, charming and crazy fighting game.

  • Elemental Gimmick Gear - Very cool little adventure game that plays a lot like a top-down view Zelda game

  • House of the Dead 2 - A super-fun light-gun shooter on rails with a distinctly B-grade horror movie feel to it that just adds to the charm of the game.

  • Maken X - A first-person view action games that is VERY unique. Lots of melee action. You can also "mindjack" other people's bodies and use them.

  • Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of the Super-Heroes - Bar-none, the best fighting game on the system. So many characters to choose from and cool unlockables to earn. Very smooth combat. And eye-popping 2D graphics.

  • Quake III: Arena - Just a lot of fun to play with friends. First-person shooting, multiplayer, mayhem! Back when it FPS were fast and intense.

  • Resident Evil 2 & 3 - Great ports of a couple of the greatest games ever made. Better looking than the original PS1 versions.

  • Resident Evil: Code Veronica - Fantastic Resident Evil entry which is basically Resident Evil 3.5. Very long campaign that gives you plenty for your buck, and back in the day this was a Dreamcast exclusive.

  • Sega Smash Pack Vol. 1 - A nice collection of Sega Genesis games and even a Saturn game. (Altered Beast, Columns, Golden Axe, Phantasy Star II, The Revenge of Shinobi, Sega Swirl, Shining Force, Vectorman, Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage 2, Virtua Cop 2, and Wrestle War)

  • Spider-Man (Different game from "Spider-Man: The Movie" on PS2/XBox/Gamecube) - Fun as heck action game with very fun web-slinging and wall-crawling controls. And this is the best version of that game out there. The story follows the comics, rather than the cartoon or movies. And it has lots of cool unlockables that will please Spider-Man fans.

  • Soul Calibur - A rare example of a home port of a game actually surpassing it's arcade-counterpart. Very fun 3D fighting with a focus on weapons.

  • Unreal Tournament - Same reason I like Quake III: Arena, see that entry.

  • Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense - A very fun vehicular-combat game that I daresay is even better than the Twisted Metal games of the era. And again, the best version of this game.

Fatal Fury (Gauro): Mark of the Wolves Powerstone 1&2 Crazy Taxi Virtua Tennis Gigawing 2 Ooga Booga (don't judge me) Chu Chu Rocket (seriously, stop it) Heavy Metal: Geomatrix (I'm right here, I can see you judging me) Dreamcast was the best console for really goofy and fun multiplayer games. God I miss local and split-screen multiplayer.

I never knew it received a remake. Is it worth getting if you already have the Dreamcast version? Or is it just basically a port?

I would be interested to hear that as well. I can tell you it was Japan-only though, Emerald.

It came out in Europe at least, not sure about US. It's called Maken Shao Demon Sword, it changes the view to 3rd person and the story mas minor changes. I'd say it's worth owning even if you have Maken X.

Nope, not in the US. If you can play PAL games it seems to be fairly cheap though.

Skies of Arcadia, no question. I can still remember the first time I beat it, wandering around the house afterwards thinking "What am I supposed to do with my life now?"

Also, Tech Romancer and Project Justice.

According to GameFAQs, it wasn't released in the US:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps2/468546-maken-shao/data

Maken X is also one of my favourites on the Dreamcast. I recently played wholeheartedly for the first time, due to the recommendations in this forum, and I really grew to like it.
