I noticed Japanese games tend to rock it when it comes to intro cutscenes (the ones prior to the main menu). I'll give a special shout out to Final Fantasy 8! How about you, GD? Your favorite intro video/cutscenes in a game?

FF12 intro. Idk I always loved the game introduction to Ivalice I think its very magical.
Edit: here is the video. The airship flying over Bhujerba, the wedding, the war and the world itself, I love it.
I also love FFTactics PSX intro, the few chocobo knights strolling around the vast field I think its very nostalgic to me.
I know there are better and cooler intros, but the original Deus Ex intro just sets up the game so well. It's the perfect combination of giving you enough information so you can look forward to stuff, while withholding enough so it doesn't ruin a surprise.
@mrbojangles25: Deus Ex is one of those games that many have tried to replicate and all have failed to capture just how dense the experience is. Some have come close, yet still missed the mark.
One of those games in which no two playthroughs are really the same unless following a guide. Remarkable really, and such a fun world to explore. One of the greatest games of all time.
The intro video to Chrono Cross is a big favourite of mine. Here’s an upscaled version:
Prey 2006 had one of the best intro's of all time being abducted by aliens while don't fear the reaper plays in the background is amazing.
Lol, never played this game, but it's funny to see the Yakuza cast dressed up like that.
@SOedipus: onimusha 3 was superb, thanks for reminding me of that. Jaw dropped when I first saw it, the action was so smooth and and the quality of cgi itself is big budget movie quality.....
which led to Capcom actually releasing a 2 hour movie edition of Onimusha 4....

Onimusha 3 is awesome. Funny enough, Onimusha 3 is one of my least favourite in the series, which I love as a whole.

They never released it in English territories unfortunately or any of the samurai ones. Come on, guys. You translated the zombie one but not the feudal Japan installments?
All of the Persona games have pretty stylish intros, by design. That's kind of their thing.
As far as ones that stuck out for me, Resident Evil: Code Veronica for cool action and intriguing setup. The CG is a bit dated these days but it's still pretty good.
