Poll Would you prefer the new James Bond game first or third person? (51 votes)

First person 43%
Third person 35%
No fussed 8%
Both? 14%

Hello. As we know, a new James Bond game was announced from the Hitman people, it's in the very early stages so we basically know, jack shit.

Would you prefer it to be third person like their typical titles or first person like, what is generally regarded as the best Bond titles?

Lets see, 007 "Tomorrow Never Dies" PSX was really the best 3rd-person shooter I like and 007 "Goldeneye" N64 was the true 1st-person shooter I enjoy as well. If a new Bond game is being made, I prefer both options this time around.

It's a shooter.

Unless they are going to make it Max Payne style they should go First Person.

I voted for 3rd person since 3rd person is almost always better. However, I could have gone for both. I do like games that give you the option.

First Person if it's a straight-up shooter, but probably Third Person if they're mixing genres. I'd like the game to not be just an action game, and with IO there could be a decent chance for that.

Bah. 9-3.

Depends on what kind of game it's going to be. If it's going to be a Goldeneye-style shooty-shooty-bang-bang, then first-person works fine.

But if it is, as expected to be, a stealth game like the Hitman series, then third-person tend to work better. Yes, Thief and Dishonored worked fine, but third-person is still better for spacial awareness and situational reading.

Shooters are potentially better in third person. James Bond shouldn't be a shooter anyway. He spends more time talking, investigating and fighting without a gun.

Agree, don't really want a barrage of forced action.

More drips, when appropriate.

I like both third person and first person so it's not a big deal to me I guess for nostalgia sake I would say first person because of Goldeneye N64 but that's about it.

If they’re going to emphasize the stealth/spy aspects of Bond — and why would you team up with the developers of “Hitman” if you’re not going to do that? — 3rd-person makes the most sense.

First person with focus on stealth and gadgets with shooting rather than straight out shooter.

I wont mind Hitman like third person since its IO.

IO made good small sandbox so it work.

still Agent 47 as character is better than bond. He is more badass.

It seems logical that it will be third person with a stealth emphasis given the developer. I’m ok with that. Third person is a bit more versatile imo. And in a Bond game there should be a little bit if everything, including some bombastic set pieces.

Interesting to see if they put some twist on the gunplay (like slow-mo effects). Or if they go with a standard shooter.

And how will they approach stealth? Will there be big open spaces like hitman or more linear like Splinter Cell?

So many difficult decisions.

as already said the smart money is on a variation of hitman in third person but if i could choose i'd go first person for that nudge towards immersion over cinematics

I'd love it to be both then you get to choose.

I personally prefer 3rd person as i like to see what's going on around my character. Though as mentioned in previous posts 1st person has also been good for Goldeneye type games..

If they took inspiration from Splinter Cell doubling down on the gadgets with an emphasis on stealth over action, interacting with the environments in tandem be down with that.

Certainly be miffed it took inspiration from modern titles with XP grind unlocks though.

Like, just give us the tools to choose how we want to play.

Rumour has it that MS AAAA (whatever the **** that means) studio in the Initiative are making a Perfect Dark game, and seeing as MS just re-registered the trademark for the game, at the same time they did for Fable, and MS said that it didn't mean they were making new games in the series, and months later they officially (everyone knew) announced the next Fable game.

So if E3 goes ahead next year i'm betting that it will get announced there.

Having said that I honestly don't get what people see in the series, but hey what ever floats your boat lol.

Don't care if the game is good. And hopefully lets fans TRULY let go of Goldeneye (which is about as likely as Smash fans letting go of Melee, New Vegas was right, the hard part IS letting go).

The setting, mission design, huge variety of weapons, lots of game modes. If this translates to PD2, i don't see how it wouldn't be very successful. PD2 could essentially be CP2077 with aliens involved. They don't need to stick to the exact gameplay formula the original PD was.

I played the 360 version for about half an hour, turned it off and traded it in, but its been reported by a few sites as a reboot, so take from that what you will.

360 version as in PDZ or the N64 remaster? Cuz if you're talking about PDZ, that thing got nothing on the original, and even if you were to play the remastered version of the original, the game is just too old. To understand its appeal, you had to have played it when it came out.

If it is a straight up shooter? First person.

If anything else--stealth, assassination, etc--then third person.

Ideally it would have both, if not as an option, then for certain things (sort of like how Deus Ex swapped to third person for cover, or how in some game you sniper in first-person but rest is third).

First Person, just for the potential.

Many nostalgic fans hold that GoldenEye 64 with high regard despite it being a pretty underwhelming game, feel I missed something special about it. As it's clearly not as good as D00M 64.

I would like a new take on that, with what fans consider so memorable about that retro FPS, while having a much higher quality and mechanically interesting product.

Definitely first person. I don't think I'd get much out of seen Bond's butt - conversely, spy games like other stealth and sci fi games are great candidates for "immersive sim" type design.

I usually prefer 1st person. However, I'm fine with 3rd as long as the game justifies it, like Hitman.
