With all the talk going to all downloads with steam, psn, xbox live, would you go to a system that's purely download?

With internet the way it is here in England, no way. Games are just getting bigger and all the next gen consoles should really use blu-ray. Imagine downloading 20-50GB of data every time you buy a game. El3ctrosisV2
If speeds changed in the next few years where it wasn't that big of a deal, would you?
Why not?
PC evolved from physical to digital.. if the consoles can pull out something good like Steam then yes.
I'd take the wait and see approach. I'm not planning on buying a next gen' console at launch anyway, I'll maybe wait a year or more. If it was download only I'd have to see if and when the games went down in price - I'm certainly not paying $60 for a 6 month old game. I'd need to know if the HD was big enough to hold several years worth of game downloads, how much the whole thing cost, if there were any next gen games that I was really interested in, if it was a major step up in graphics or processing power, etc. etc. etc.
And if nobody bought it and therefore nobody made any games for it, I sure wouldn't want to be one of those people who stood in line and paid top dollar for it.
Except PC's still have DVD drives and you can buy physical games. Having a console with no drive at all would just be a stupid move. Why not?

Yeah, and I highly doubt we'll see those crazy Steam sales on the XBOX 720.

You never know. Steam's business model is VERY successful.

Yes, but that's because Steam also has a huge backlog of past PC games. They do sell newer games for cheap too.
Maybe it'll work. But I'm not sure if it'll work for this upcoming gen. Maybe a gen later?

Possibly. I mean it's already partially in place with people downloading games.

Yeah but Valve and Microsoft are very different. Just look at the prices on the 360 Games on Demand service. :) To reply to your earlier question, even if I had access to super fast broadband and no download caps, I still wouldn't. I have 77 games on Steam but I prefer discs on consoles. The thought of the next Xbox being like that rip-off Onlive service makes me feel sick just thinking of it. At least with Steam you can play your games if your internet goes down.No. I hate waiting for downloads on my connection, and it wouldn't be the same with no collection look at.

Stupid move and 99.9% unlikely to happen.

What I said.I said no. I like Steam but I still prefer Physical Media for Consoles and Handhelds.
Digital Only is fine for PC but I would never want that for a Console or Handheld.
Nope.
I consider any digitally purchased game as a long term rental (which in practice, it is).
As such, I am only willing to spend a fraction of the money I would have spent on the retail version of a game.
Given that all platforms with one digital seller average a substantally higher game price average compared to the retail versions of those games that have many many vendors; I would be getting less entertainment for more cost.
This would make choosing a digital only platform the financially inefficient choice and would feature non-secured purchases (purchases would lack permanent/transferable ownership).
This seems like a worse case scenario. I often find games cheaper on steam than the store. A lot of vita games are cheaper online than retail. This is of course new, not used games. I agree about the long term rental, since there is no trade in value.Nope.

It would suck because I like to have a physical copy, but I'm a gamer and I wouldnt let something that small keep me from enjoying my hobby. But I doubt the next generation of consoles will be disc-less, maybe the generation after next but I just can't see it being now because over half of the united states doesnt have high speed Internet access, I t would be dumb to release a download only console with a majority of your consumers dont have fast enough internet to download a game in under 12 hours. They might have a seperate cheaper version of next gen consoles that don't have disk trays that would be mainly for people who play arcade games, watch netflix, hulu, youtube and all that, but I don't see them only offering a console that doesnt play discs.
Absolutely not. After 20 years + of PC Gaming I was forced to sell my gaming PC and give away my Steam account due to DD. I honestly loved it when I lived in the city and had 30d/5up connections. But with a much slower connection now and bandwith caps I now own a PS3 because of this. The great internet connections in main cities of the U.S. is a small percentage of the worldwide reality of internet services. The infastructure is not ready for Digital only Distribution in a main stream market.Stratacoustic
So the only thing stopping you is the download speeds?
Hell no, why would I want to buy games that I can't share with others and can't sell? I might be crazy but I'm not stupid.
Honestly, I feel like I'm going to be a bit behind on picking up the next generation consoles. There is still a ton I have to play from this gen, last gen, and the generation before. Lacking physical game copies will likely just increase my wait time to finally get the systems.
Absolutely not! DLC is a plague that is simultaneously ruining all ruining all forms of media, especially video games, and also is ripping people off left and right. Unless you own an actual physical copy that can be played by somebody else, you don't actually own anything.
Depends on the system. I buy a lot of games. (Like 100+ on PS3). So depending on the HDD space and how I can move them onto externals etc. I want physical media tbh.
