They were my best video game of all time! I loved their games and thought they was amazing! Everyone says they are dead. They made my best game of all time! I hope they are on life support not dead! What if there's a lil bit of the same magic in the air when they released DKC. What if they can hit that place one more time. I hope they can have one more good last run with the new Xbox!

I don't know. It seem many of the talent left it.

Since MS got them they been just a leach on MS. One of the worse business action MS has done.

I do wonder what actally happened to rare, the luminaries from within the company must of gone elsewhere or something. a company that's had such an impact on the gaming industry with numerous legendary title doesn't just decide to suck by choice.

Yeah I think they will. They made some great games this gen. Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo, Viva Pinata, and Banjo Nuts & Bolts unfortunately they just didn't sell. I think they'll come back and surprise a lot of people next gen.

no the false 'consumer demand' assumptions set by publishers are stating that all we want are call of duty clones, online multiplayer with persistence, and a lot of downloadable content to choose from so that we can enhance our experience.

A lot of their talent actually left after Goldeneye. They were able to keep a little bit, but were never the same after that.

MS had them release the next Conker game too early, back on original Xbox when XBL was in its infancy, it would have done much better as a current gen title, wish MS would have let them go for one last Conker game.

I agree with you a 100% like that other guy said the log remains. Dave wise left, and the Stamper brothers left the main men or guys left the company!

The talent that made Rare so magical back in the SNES/N64 days is long gone, and what's left of them is being relegated to casual Kinect games and other soulless endeavors. The Rare we all knew and loved is not coming back.

Well if they was dead they would be like THQ, or another out of business company. They or not dead maybe make horrible video games compared to their old ones, but not dead. I compare them to Rocky the boxer yeah in the last one he was not in his prime anymore but he was not dead. He had one good final run I hope Rare hits it again and has a successful final stride before they close their doors. Plus old members of Rare is trying to make another banjo or succesor to it. So I would not say they are dead. Many people seem to get it confused. Just because their good games are older does not mean they are out of sight meaning lighting can strike once again!

Controversy creates cash Rare had controversy with Nintendo. And it worked

Rare has never shipped a game that has stoked much in the way of controversy. The game you're probably thinking of is Conker's Bad Fur Day, but that didn't really get the censorious types riled up since it hit years after mature content was old hat on every other system. Its also worth nothing that Conker's Bad Fur Day was an abysmal failure from a commercial perspective, selling only 50K units.

Conker totally bombed. See, the reasoning behind its adult-oriented tone may have been sound from a certain perspective, but that "Mature" audience just wasn't around any more on the N64 by March 2001. The 2000 holiday season had been a success, but after PS2 hardware shortages started going away, so did many of Nintendo's players.

And Nintendo didn't really help themselves with marketing the title, either. See, I said the company was going all-out in the adult direction -- but, having had no experience with pursuing that audience, it shot itself in the foot a few times trying to do it. The biggest missed opportunity had to be with Nintendo Power magazine, the company's official monthly print publication, which outright refused to cover Conker in any way. Though it was the biggest release of the year for the N64 and Internet coverage abounded, NP magazine behaved as if the title simply didn't exist.

When all was said and done, Conker's Bad Fur Day sold only about 50,000 copies. Bad Fur Day indeed.

^ This exactly, Rare is an empty shell of the company it once was. None of the talent that made it great remains in the company. Now it is relegated to do Kinect games and Xbox Live avatar stuff. Cherish your memories and move on.

Do you have a link which supports your claim? Conker's hit at the tail end of the lifetime of the N64. Its incredibly unlikely that it became a hit 'years later'.
