Why does the PS3 version of games always lack AA?

When I see the two versions put up side by side on GT the PS3 version of the game always lacks AA compared and looks worse as a result and things like the colours arn't as good. Now I know back then ATI could do AA and HDR at the same time where as Nvidia couldn't and ATI had the better picture quality but I really don't understand why that effects anything in these consoles. Why don't they just use a different way of doing AA and HDR like Valve use with their source engine so the machine could perform both instead of just not bothering with the PS3?

Edited away the rant which had nothing to do with the topic lol.

I know.. i've noticed a LOT of jaggies in my PS3 games... specially things like The Darkness and Army of Two.. then again things like R&C didn't... I think it's down to the game devs tbh.

I thought it was the 360 that suffers from no AA and the PS3 doesn't handle lighting as well as the 360 does. I could be wrong because I could care less.

i think the ps3 automatically makes everything bright on the screen

i changed the settings on my monitor to a preset setting of "movie"

that turns the dynamic lighting on so the dark colours are proper dark

it looks amazing now HUGE difference

am i talking bull?

I think they don't use AA because they want the games (both X360 and PS3) look sharpness and take advantage of the 1080p, using AA even if the game looks a little better, it make it lose some little details.

I'm sure it's just laziness on the developer's side.

To make it simple,it´s a lack of Video-Ram,which is half of the 360´s plus it can´t be used the way they want. That´s why the PS3-Versions are often brighter. To cover the lack of AA.It´s not really a fault of the devs, because after the PS2 Sony should have known it.One side you should make a awesome-looking game,on the other side it looks old if the Graphics don´t look clean.

Funny thing is that the PS3-Version of Assasins Creed doesn´t really have less details afaik,it just looks much worse thanks to the brighter picture.

I really think it is all due to third parties not having the PS3 figured out in the first year... if you look at the exclusives, it is a different story.

OMG teh jaggies are cuttin mah eyes!!1! :P

Third party games really did suck on most levels for 2006-2007, but I think the situation is improving. Games like DMC4 show that third parties are catching up.

another things that might benefit exclusive titles is that they can't be compared to the same game on another system so we can't really tell if the lighting would be better on the 360 or anything.

I hadn't thought about that, but you are right.

I just noticed because a lot of 360 exclusives show up on PC and comparisons can be drawn to show where the improvements in the PC versions were made. Sony on the other hand stands alone.

Very true. GT5P is probably the only game I posted shots for that I would categorically say couldn't be done better anywhere else, but that is simply because the whole Polyphony team are wizards that sacrifice goats to Satan in exchange for mind blowing graphics.

It's because all developers are lazy bums that obviously vacation 10 months out of the year.

Seriously though, I've heard it has something to do with the GPU or memory. Some say it's because the 360 was built around allowing developers to use these tools and implement such features with ease.

So whether the reason is to Microsoft's credit or to Sony's discredit, I'm not really certain.
