I've been playing Multiplayer shooters for 7 years but I haven't improved ever and in competitive games I normally place at low ranks even though I really enjoy them :/

I mean, there's not much you can do aside from play one game a lot or change up your strategy. I feel like many people just run around aimlessly. It's going to depend on the game of course, but generally it helps to be cautious and know where choke points are. I dunno, I was pretty bad at first but then I became pretty good at online shooters in general once I figured out my play style. But at least you're having fun, so there's that.
If you really enjoy them, then it shouldn't matter what rank you place in. :)
I think it becomes enjoyable when you realize that you win some, you lose some. Loosing does not mean you are bad. it just means you have met your match, or somebody better.
Theres always gonna be somebody better. And you can get better in time!
My advice with FPS games is to NOT sprint around the map. Unless you're being chased of course. Just walk/run at the normal pace without clicking in your left stick (or whatever sprint is). The time from stopping the sprint to pulling up your gun is often the difference between life and death.
I'm awesome at shooters. Not to brag or anything. I'm always at the top of the scoreboard. I'm old too you'd think I wouldn't be good at age 41. I think I just have good hand eye coordination and reflexes since I've been playing video games my whole life. I've also played a lot of sports and chess in my life which I think makes me a tactical thinker. I'm always thinking ahead.
