The Slim will probably last you longer because it's newer, but it overheats very fast. I'd go with the original PS2.

The latest slim has in built power supply and Ethernet port and shiny lid. I think three might be one more feature added to it. It also supports widescreen which my phat didn't. Oh and it has usb on front.

WRONG!!! it doesnt overheat, the fan just cakes with dust causing that. i had a slim that got water in it so i took it apart and the fan was so caked with dust that it was a CM thick. it will most likely not overheat and slims load better, easier to clean and less likely to DRE

Not myself, nor my friends, have ever had any model of PS2 overheat. If yours is overheating, there's too much dust in it or you damaged it somehow.

Anyway though... there isn't really much of a difference like there is for PS3, so I'd just go with the smaller model.

Try to get a 90000 series Slim, it's more reliable and has a better fan than the previous Slims. You may have a hard time finding a used 90000, though, so if you absolutely MUST buy a used system, just get any Slim model.

Go with the Slim, the original had a disc tray and those are unreliable

I prefer the older model, but I'd buy a slim based on the fact that most fats have been used to death.

I've burned out the laser on 2 different original "fat" model PS2s. but my Slim is still working fine so far. *knock on wood*

So from my personal experience, I'd say go with a Slim Model PS2. Makes sense from a technological standpoint too, as naturally the PS2 Slims would be newer.

Had a friend with the same experience. Had 3 fat PS2s before the slims came out, and then has had the same slim basically since the first ones came out.

It's just my personal experience, if yours doesn't overheat, good for you, that doesn't make me wrong. The original PS2 is also easy to clean, I'm not sure how much easier the Slim is as I never took mine apart.

The 90000 series Slim? It's definitely the most reliable model yet.

I'd go with a slim as well. I lost my OG phat to disc read error, and they have a history of not being very reliable.

70000 series is the PROVEN reliable ps2 model. 90000 series is still to new (2 years i think in canada, bit more in the states) With the 90' they took the fan out, and put the power supply in.. i dont know how it deals with overheating in the long run, but apparently it runs cooler. I personally know from experience and many years that the 70000 works, and is very reliable. Went out of my way to avoid the 90000 for that reason. Who knows, it could be better then the 70', time will tell. Id stay away from the original design, it was good, but has many little annoying bugs. (wont play all ps2/ps1 disks, have to try multiple times to make them work on it) I LOVE THE PS2!

What are you talking about? The 90000 series DOES have a fan, the console would fry without one. And it's actually better than the ones on previous Slims, since it runs noticeably cooler.

Where can i get the information on it having a fan, doesnt say anywhere on the Sony website. Seems to be a heck of alot of speculation that it does not have a fan, so i just want to know where i can find this info. Thats a game changer for me if so. Please reply asap, might have to return my 70000. I do doubt there is a fan still. The 90000 has had a decent amount of problems with my freinds and alot of complaints on forums. Im only human i could be wrong, kinda hope im wrong because the 90000 is selling at walmart cheap right now. How else would they have fit the massive power supply into the even smaller Ps2 slim without having to take something out.

I have a 90000 Slim and trust me, it has a fan. You can always hear it spinning, it's quite a bit louder than the previous Slim models. I honestly haven't heard of people having problems with it. I got mine in December 2008, (used to have a Fat PS2 before that) and have had zero issues with it so far.

Well, I don't know too much about the technical stuff, but I do know the technology has come a long way since 1999. So it's not surprising that the exact same components can now be made even smaller and more efficient, allowing space for an internal power supply, Ethernet port and an even better fan.

I am not questioning your intelligence or trying to offend here... do you have the later model 70000.. like the 79001.. or the 90001..? I have heard that there was a significantly less amount of noise produced. You just blew my mind that you have had a 9000 since 08', in canada (toronto area) we didnt have them till 2010, that definitly would have given enough time to work out the bugs, which is possibly where all the problems were concerning. and to think i went well out of my way to hunt down a 70000 instead of paying 10$ less and get it at walmart with a WAY better warranty/return policy. Feeling pretty dumb right about now. I may be changing my vote on which to get very shortly.

I have the SCPH-90001, and as far as I know, it was released in 2008 in the US, not sure about Canada. I'm pretty sure the fan on the 90000 is louder than the 70000, but it's still quieter than the Fat PS2's fan.
